Folic Acid??

I’m getting so confused with what I’m meant to be taking! I’ve been taking folic acid. But my midwife said I need to be taking multivitamins with vitamin D in. I’ve bought pregnacare original tablets - which has iron, zinc vits D & B12 and 400ug folic acid.. is this Ok? What does everyone else take? I’m 8 weeks pregnant.

At your booking appointment they should take some blood and let you know if anything’s looking low, for me it was iron, folic acid and vitamin D as I had a deficiency before pregnancy anyway. If nothing specific is low normal pregnancy multivitamins should be enough 😊

I have taken normal pregnancy vitamins all the way through, started with pregnacare and then I started to get some free ones and they have been fine, 35 weeks now and no concerns about lacking anything etc

I have also taken pregnacare original until this week (12w) which I switched to pregnacare max , everything is normal until now

Most people can't process folic acid. Folate is the natural one that you can actually process, Google it

I'm 36W and taking Boots prenatals, vitamin D, vitamin C 1000mg, omega 3 6 9 1000mg, B12 and probiotic. In the first trimester, I took the above plus extra folic acid as I had had a MC before this pregnancy - I did stop the extra dosage once I was safely into second trimester. With first pregnancy, I took pregnacare and wow my body just struggled / rejected those vitamins... I was constantly sick and constipated with tummy aches. So this time round, I've been doing Boots brand vitamins. Pregnancy has been rated low risk, no concerns about anything, and baby is healthy.

@Lindelani thank you that’s really helpful!

I took folic acid until 12 weeks (you can take it until birth if you want to but 12 weeks it’s the most important when the spine is developing) and then pregnacare max through the whole of pregnancy and a separate dose of vitamin D until birth as recommended from my midwife and I also had the vitamin D prescribed xx

Hey lovely ! Folate is best than folic acid for the vast majority of women. Look into something like Wild Nutrition Pregnancy support
