Can’t do the pelvic floor exercises properly…

I just saw my physio again who confirmed that I have been pushing rather than pulling. This has made things worse and I am very upset. Anyone else? Any recommendations please? Thanks in advance!

My physio said this is really common, it’s not like a squat where you can look in the mirror and check you are doing it correctly. Hopefully they corrected you technique and you will start to see some improvement soon

@Alice no I can’t get it right… Not sure what is my problem… She arranged another appointment with a colleague of hers in case I can understand her better but feel like it won’t be the case. 😔

Have you heard of the app "squeezy" it discusses 'the knack' of pelvic floor exercises and how to do them...

@Renee thanks so much. This is helpful. However, I now have a phobia I will still do them wrong. Might try them at my next appointment for them to confirm. 🙏🏻

I have the same problem I had a private physio appointment and they talked me through but I really struggle and get stressed out with it 😔

It might be worth getting a bio feedback tool like Elvie (there are others I just don't know their names!)? They're SO stupidly expensive but we'll have to do pelvic floor exercises forever so might be worth investing...

@Clare I even had or still have (not sure what happened to it with the move) an Elvie but my pelvic floor physio told me the feedback provided is not necessarily correct? So again stressed. Do you think it is?

@Lauren sorry to hear that. Will keep you posted if I find a solution and please do the same.

@Elsa how frustrating - to be honest I'm not sure, my physio recommended I get one but I had to send the first one back for a replacement as it wasn't working properly - didn't read my squeezes which I spent weeks feeling miserable about until I thought maybe I'll try a new one instead- so I'm not sure I'm afraid

I went to see someone who taught me how to do hypopressives which has been useful.

@Julia what’s that? Did you go privately?

It was noted I was bearing down rather than pulling in during exercises (when I was told to relax I would squeeze and when I was told to squeeze I’d bear down?!) and no matter what visualisation techniques I was given I still couldn’t grasp. Not helped by nerves being so damaged I could barely feel what I was doing anyway! I was given a biodfeedback machine to use to help by bum muscles (I had bowel incontinence in the first few weeks PP) about 3 weeks ago which has been really helpful but when I’m not using it I have no idea what I’m doing and I’ve recently found I have a prolapse in my vagina and I’m really worried I’ve actually just been making my situation worse when squeezing without using it. I’ve found the machine helpful when I’ve used it, and seen an improvement in score, but it’s not practical to use every time you need to do your squeezes throughout a day!

@Imogen thanks for sharing! Do you know the name of the biofeedback machine or do you have a photo just so I investigate?

@Imogen thanks so much!xxx
