Antibiotics

In hospital due to pains which they think is caused by a UTI. They said they are looking to see if I need antibiotics but they said there are side effects. After googling I am now scared that the side effects will hurt my baby. Really freaking out!

I religiously got reccurent utis non pregnant and throughout pregnancy, I’ve taken nitrofurantoin throughout and it’s only until 3rd trimester that you can’t take that so they prescribe cefalexin instead which is perfectly safe throughout 3rd trimester and I’m currently on that too at 30+5 xx

I had the antibiotics during my second trimester to help with a UTI - it cleared up pretty quick after a week, they are pregnancy safe otherwise they wouldn’t prescribe them x

The side affects from antibiotics will far outweigh the risk of you having an infection for the baby , medical guidance is to keep both you and baby safe xxx

I would highly recommend taking probiotics while taking antibiotics. It can really help with some of the side effects that may accrue. x

I would just say to double check with them that the antibiotics you've been prescribed are suitable for your stage of pregnancy. It sounds obvious but I had to have my appendix our at 15 weeks and no matter how many times I reminded them I was pregnant, they still nearly gave me the wrong ones intravenously. I asked them to double check they were suitable before injecting me and she came back and said the OBGYN had said definitely not during pregnancy and got them to give me a different one. Always worth double checking - it means a lot more to you than it does to them. Hope you feel better soon!
