Copper IUD

I have an appointment to get a copper iud inserted. Has anyone gotten this? I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I keep seeing videos of women saying it’s super painful. Now I’m kind of nervous 😳

I’d take some ibuprofen ahead of time. I haven’t gotten the copper one, but I’ve had Mirena in the past. Ibuprofen helped me.

I didn't get the copper one, I got the Mirena but I took 3 ibuprofen before the appointment. I wasn't on my cycle unfortunately which would have helped with lubrication. I can say it hurt to have my cervix dilated but it wasn't like labor pain. I tolerated it.

@Amarisa ok thanks that’s good to know!

You're welcome!

It’s not that bad!! I didn’t take anything before and the “pain” lasts less than 30 seconds. Mild cramps followed

Following cuz I'm also getting one inserted soon

I have the Mirena but I just took some ibuprofen like an hour before and the pain wasn’t really anything memorable. I’d say it was more uncomfortable than painful for most of it. I had cramping afterward that lasted a week or so but nothing terrible.

I got mine in about a month and a half ago! The worst part was the clamp on the cervix, but it really wasn’t all that bad. Of course it hurt but i would compare it to getting a shot. And it only hurts for a couple seconds!! I really really like mine, hopefully you will too!!!

I didn’t get a copper IUD but my dr gave me a prescription for a medication that helped dilate my cervix prior to the appt. It was still uncomfortable but more like bad period cramps. Idk if many dr offer that medication but it’s worth asking. I tried getting an IUD several years ago prior to having a baby and was not offered any medication and I was in too much pain to have it inserted.

@Caela Benkendorf thank you! I’ve been looking for a non hormonal form of birth control that is long term so I hope this will be a good and easy form of birth control!

Thank you everyone! I feel much better I think some people just have a lower pain tolerance than I do 😅
