Miscarriage vs abortion

I didn't know what group to post this into but I had a conversation earlier today with a girl who said abortions are the same thing as a miscarriage because scientists can't prove what causes a miscarriage and that got on my nerves because an abortion is a choice where as a miscarriage is 100% not avoidable and is very heart breaking. I've never had a miscarriage but I know people who did and I couldn't imagine losing my baby and someone saying it's the same thing as an abortion

Another name for miscarriage is spontaneous abortion. Maybe that's what she was talking about? Ignore her and go about your day. Why do you care about what this person thinks?

Same physical process, different catalysts and different connotations. Also there are causes that can be found for SOME miscarriages.

An abortion is basically a forced miscarriage, so they are the same in some ways but different in other ways.

Not the same thing. I have gone through miscarriages. My friend chose to have abortion. I didn’t have a say or a choice in loosing my baby. I understand some woman with medical reason. But please do not compare an abortion to a miscarriage.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying this lately and it’s honestly so offensive as someone who went through both they are NOT the same thing 😞

A miscarriage is called a spontaneous abortion. To abort something is to end it. So technically your body aborted a pregnancy during a miscarriage. But the intentions and the mode of action behind a miscarriage vs abortion are two different things. And socially they are very very different. I would never say a woman who had a miscarriage had an abortion. Scientists can’t always prove the exactly what caused a miscarriage because it was spontaneous and happened through nature. We can most often tell what caused a baby to die from an abortion. They are not the same at all.
