Birth Control Options (non-hormonal)

Does anyone have recommendations for birth control options that are non-hormonal? I have an autoimmune disease so I don’t want hormone birth control options. I looked into the copper iud! I’m afraid of it hurting though lol!

I did the mirena iud. While it is hormonal, my doctor explained that it wasn’t the same as taking a birth control pill where the hormones will go through my whole body. Instead, the hormones stay centrally located in my uterus and it doesn’t impact my hormone production from my pituitary gland or cause any unnecessary inflammation in my body. The mirena or the copper iuds were the best ones recommended to me with my IBD/ulcerative colitis and PCOS. I was scared too, but if you do the insertion when you’re on your period or 5 days within starting it, it helps a lot! I honestly found cervical checks during pregnancy hurt way worse than having my iud inserted.

@Cheyenne thank you so much!! This is so interesting I’ll look into it! Haha I’ve yet to get my period because of breastfeeding but I have a high pain tolerance so maybe it wouldn’t be too terribly bad 😂

@Holly thank you! I actually followed this with my first born but I’m not super consistent with it and got pregnant 6 months post partum with my second 🙈

@Jessica I looked into this! I’ve never heard of this thank you! Have you personally used it for a long period of time? I’m not sure about the effective percentage I’m looking to not have anymore kids or if I do wait years 😂
