Running in Pregnancy

Prior to getting pregnant I was a marathon/half marathon runner and actively running 4-5 times a week. I find it so difficult to motivate myself currently and lucky if I get out once 😂 Any mamas still running short distances? Midwife told me how good running is for you whilst pregnant so it’s something I want to keep up. I am near Heaton Park (Manchester) and would love to meet up with any other running mamas so we can motivate each other?! 🤰🏼🏃🏼‍♀️

Hey Leah! I really relate to this 🥲 one of my first “oh my god in pregnant” realisations was when I was out for a run and my “easy” pace had dropped by 2 minutes a mile. I’m trying to just do 2 5ks a week - really slow and steady. But not hugely enjoying it to be honest. Embracing long walks and strength training when I can. We’ll get back to it! Some of the strongest runners I know are mums! Xxx

@Becky I was supposed to be doing Mcr Marathon in April and realised that it just wasn’t going to be possible and had the worst FOMO! 🥲 But yes that’s good and well done you for getting out doing it when you can, it’s so hard to motivate yourself 👏🏼 xx

I was still running 5k up to 8m pregnant and did 10k at 7m pregnant - I had to stop in the end as I would get really bad pelvic pain afterwards so switched to low impact exercises which I’m still doing at 38 weeks ☺️ I feel really fortunate to have been able to stay so active during my pregnancy as it massively helps with my mental health! My only advice would be to listen to your body and run for fun not for timings! My splits slowly got slower and slower but I just focused on how good it felt to be out in the fresh air and moving rather than what speed I was at 😌

By all means wasn’t a long distance runner, but I do enjoy running 5ks for my mental health! I ran one 5k a week (becos working and looking after a toddler) until I was 32 weeks pregnant, tried to go yesterday (currently 34weeks+2) I literally couldn’t handle 6 minutes without feeling discomfort😅 but I’ve never used bump supports - I’ve heard great things about them but never used one myself🙈 I’m now opting for swimming and weight training for the last 6 weeks☺️ you got this girlie! X

Not a runner, I’m not even a jogger lol but I did Pilates and dance all throughout pregnancy. Zumba. Lightweights, squats. PP I took up salsa. So I’m still active. You can still participate in charity marathons where you can run/walk/jog, for a fee, and goes to charity when those events come along, and take jogs around the neighbourhood still, just wear some good pregnancy bump support leggings just to give it more stability when you jog. I wouldn’t recommend the same pace run as you did before but yeah go for jogs 4-5 days a week still that should be no problem. I recently participated in the “color run” where it’s all ages and choose from 2-5km and went w some friends, got covered in coloured chalk and that was hella fun 😂 for charity.

@Fiona Aww that’s amazing!!! I wish I had the motivation, I feel like I’m just stuck in this rut with exercise and my body is like NOOO 😂 Yeah when I’ve rang I’ve ran just because I felt like doing it and just plodded along which is fun rather than my heart rate being through the roof!

@Bekah That’s still amazing that you’re managing to get out! I’m going look at doing aqua natal classes to get my arse into gear 😅 Xx

@Leah I also opted running on a treadmill, because I could stop it whenever I wanted for a wee break🤪 and thank you so much, I didn’t do anything in my first pregnancy and always said to myself next pregnancy will be different - all movement is brilliant for the body and mind, so just because you can only manage 10 minutes or so, it’s better than nothing🥰 so easy to be harsh on ourselves❤️ good luck with everything!❤️xx

I’m 9 weeks pregnant and training for a half marathon! Running 5-8k twice a week at the minute but will need to step it up- hopefully first trimester fatigue eases soon. I’ll be 16 weeks for the run and am just aiming to finish, no plans of time goals or anything since I found out about the pregnancy!
