Weight Gain.

I am a FTM mom, 38 years old. I feel like I’m gaining a lot of weight. Not super healthy but not eating terrible. Should I work out? I already walk daily. Anyone in the same boat?

FTM and 36 myself but walking is suppose to be great for weight loss . I wish I could go for a walk but it’s been so damn hot in Arizona. If you want to lose weight I would recommend being in a calorie deficit. I’ve lost 7 lbs the past 3 weeks being in a slight deficit because I am breastfeeding. I’ve been doing some high intensity workouts similar to crossfit. Just trying to build back my strength I had prior to pregnancy.

@Jonna is being in a calorie deficit okay while pregnant?

@Jacqueline I would not be in one while pregnant. My best advice is to just stay active during pregnancy and eat well and worry about the weight loss later.

How much do you weigh if you don’t mind me asking? I’m 38 and this is my third pregnancy.

I had a rapid increase in weight in the beginning and it tapered off my second trimester. I’m in my third trimester now, diagnosed with gestational diabetes so have been limiting carbs - I’ve lost 10 pounds the last two weeks. If you’re not on any activity restrictions, absolutely you should work out. Nothing strenuous or new, but whatever you used to do. You can do some prenatal yoga, Pilates, light weights, and definitely go on walks (especially after eating).

If you are asking yourself if you should start working out then maybe you should. Walking daily is a great start but do you know if you reach 10k steps? That’s the adult daily average. If you are pregnant maybe join a pregnancy swimming/Pilates/yoga/walking group to meet some pregnant mamas to do the journey with as well. Socialise and exercise. When I was pregnant I did Pilates and light weights and light Zumba, the slower songs and tried to hit 10k steps. 3rd baby I gained 44lbs but since I kept up my workouts PP I was able to lose it all and tone up after baby. How are you eating, how much water are you drinking etc. You say you’re gaining weight but in your post you didn’t say you’re pregnant- that makes a big difference

Same boat. I breastfeed and since I've started I've gained 8kgs. I eat less than I did pre pregnancy and exercise and nothing helps. So disheartening.

@Rosalyn I’ll message you.

@Kellie sorry😊 yes! I am pregnant. 19 weeks, 3 days.

I wouldn't start a heavy workout routine if you weren't before you got pregnant. Keep doing your walks, maybe try some yoga. Make healthy choices with your eating. Enjoy this time, the weight will come off later and you can start a gym routine when that time comes.

For me exercise has always helped me lose weight/keep weight regulated. Lots of people say it’s more about your food/diet, but that’s never worked for me 🤷‍♀️ plus I love my fitness classes, I feel really good after, looking forward to going back after this baby no 2
