Worried I won't make any mum friends

I recently moved to a new area where my partner is from and haven't really met many people here. I don't know any mums and I'm feeling really insecure and scared I won't make any mum friends for my whole maternity leave. I've had a really hard pregnancy physically and mentally and am already worrying about about PND. The thought of being so alone and having a new baby and being isolated feels so daunting..a bit like starting a new school. Feel like I've got nothing to offer new friends at the moment but I still really want to form new friendships. Does anyone else feel similarly?

I feel you just try keep busy and to meet other mums x

Baby groups are really good for meeting other mums, as long as you’re prepared to put yourself out there. Other mums at groups tend to be really friendly and also in the same boat. Baby groups typically have a structured part and then unstructured chat time. I recommend Sing&Sign, TotsPlay, Musical Bumps. You may also have local groups that are free and more unstructured - there is one in my village that is just a bunch of baby mats and sensory toys, and volunteers serve hot drinks and biscuits to the mums. It’s so lovely and welcoming and there’s no structure it is just all about mums getting together for a chat. You will easily strike up conversation with others, the difficult bit is then maintaining a friendship but to be honest I got to the point I would just be like hey lets hang out 😂

@Liz thank you for the tips - got to try to be brave!

I am in the same boat, I moved on Thursday and baby is due in July. My partner is from here all his friends and family and his job is here also so I feel pretty alone. Send me a message if you wish 💓xx
