Am I the only one??

Hi everyone, I have a question that I am a bit embarrassed to ask but it is something that plays on my mind and I need a bit of help at the moment… For some reason, I have an issue with going to any international cities that my partner has already been to with his exes. It sounds silly now I am verbalising it but, for example, I do not want to consider us going to Paris, Barcelona, Venice or Rome and even some Greek islands as he has been there in previous relationships. I am fixated on creating new memories for us. It is as though I have an allergy to those places and I do not want to know about them. Even a suggestion of us going to those places gives me a reaction internally and I feel very uncomfortable. I wish I could just be cool and confident and say something like, “Yeah, let’s go there,” but the truth is I am plagued with an internal discomfort. My partner has no real interest in returning to those places but if it were to ever happen, I feel that I would react strangely. Does anyone else get this or anything similar?

I'm kind of the same too. If it's somewhere I really want to go I'd still go but if it's somewhere I'm not sure on and I know he's been there with his ex then nope I don't think I'd want to go. Like you I want new memories our memories as a family at new places.

It sounds completely ridiculous but I totally get it & I’m the same 🤣 I think it’s more about wanting your own memories with him, rather than going somewhere he’s been and him remembering the times he had there before with exes and it ruining your holiday! Yes it sounds so silly but I get it!

I mean I get it. I would totally overthink everything we’re doing while we’re there and be like “does he remember taking this exact boat ride with his ex?” “Does he remember walking these same streets hand in hand with his ex?” Etc. but yeah when we say out loud it does sound ridiculous. I’m grateful my husband hasn’t travelled anywhere before me lol

Haha exactly… the thing is these are popular destinations and I’m going out of my way to suggest other places 😂 I wonder if I should just accept that that was then and this is now? I’m really struggling with that though…

@Michelle almost 4 years… we’re together together… he’s my person… I just don’t like the “I know my way around this place” thing 🙄

Just make new memories with him 💕 trust yourself dear. Enjoy the present moment and build the future 😉 ex it's in the past. The past doesn't exist anymore ✨
