Yeah they are safe to have as it contains pasteurised milk xx

So basically it’s not the McFlurry itself its the fact that the machines may not be cleaned properly so they can cause listeria. This is the same with any icecream that comes from machines x

I have had them as I have concluded they are cleaned regularly so they are the least likely to have the bad bacteria out of all soft serves

There not as they don’t clean there machines regularly or properly

My midwife told me not to because of the listeria risk 😢

I’m a manager in McDonalds and i’m also 11w2d pregnant and I eat the flurries but only from our stores machine as i know it’s cleaned regularly and properly 🥲

My midwife told me no :(

How many times has a McFlurry made you ill in the past - if the answer is 0, I would say safe if that’s your craving. I’ve had raw meat, shellfish, loads of seafood, sushi and been fine. If I thought somewhere wasn’t fresh I obviously wouldn’t

Your not supposed to have them tho so

@Molly Sapsed I can’t find anywhere that says this. Is it just your opinion they don’t clean the machine properly?

@Charlotte nope I’ve read it and been told they don’t get cleaned properly

@Molly Sapsed I’ve never been poorly from one before. It’s about weighing up the risk and, personally, I wouldn’t think it was too risky

Apparently having soft serve from McDonald’s is fine as they are more regulated with food hygiene, that’s what A podcast that I listened to said and that they are safer than the soft serve ice cream vans that are at beaches and public spaces. I guess it does have a risk to it, you can always check listeria outbreak in the UK and that would tell you how the outbreak accrued. I looked it up about 6 weeks ago and found that since 2020 there had only been listeria cases linked to a food company that supplies sandwiches and salads to a couple of hospitals and age care facilities. So in my opinion the risk is low. I feel also the guidelines on pregnancy safe foods is quite outdated. In my opinion

I wouldn’t trust it so

This is survivorship bias. You wouldn’t think I haven’t been in a car crash so I’m not going to wear a car seat. That said, everything we do in life is calculated based on risk so if you want to eat it, then eat it. Personally I’ve had really difficult pregnancies and a really difficult time getting pregnant so for me it’s not worth the risk as I’ve been warned off it by a health professional - but if you don’t feel that way and want to eat whatever you want to in pregnancy then it’s your body, your baby, you do you!

I have been having McFlurrys and milkshakes from McDonalds and have absolutely no issues. I’ve also been eating deli meats. I think it’s 100% your choice and pregnancy is rough enough without constantly worrying about what you can and can’t eat. Some women don’t and some do but I honestly think whatever helps you get through it!!

So the way I see it is this - McDonald’s hires young staff and when I was younger as much as it’s embarrassing to admit. If I was given a cleaning job I would half heartedly do it. I’d clean it enough so it looked like I’d done my job and that would be it. Now most teenagers have this same mind frame. So if they get asked to clean the machines it is very likely they’re not doing it properly x

@Courtney Maw hey! so i’m a manager in mcdonald’s - the shake machine is actually really difficult to clean and it’s very rarely done by a young person - the lad who cleans ours is like 25odd and has worked in mcdonald’s for years, it has to be completely taken apart and put back together to be cleaned! obviously might not be the same in all stores but that’s just how ours works, but every shake machine has the same cleaning procedures etc as the machine locks if it isn’t taken apart and cleaned weekly xx
