Feeling guilty about not working

I know I shouldn't be feeling this way and that looking after my little one IS a form of work, but do any of you fellow SAHMs feel guilty about not having a job anymore? We're not starving or risk losing the house but since having our child we have not been able to afford ANY luxuries such as the occasional outing (except free ones) or little treats (makeup, clothes) unless it's for the baby (of course). I can see our savings disappear before my eyes and I don't know how long we can manage like this. I'm looking for part-time jobs every day and get either ignored or rejected, it's really getting me down. I try to stay positive but I can't help feeling like a failure... Can anyone relate? I think I just need a virtual hug or something ❤️

Honestly yes! And it’s exhausting, and I completely feel guilty about it all the time x

I don’t feel guilty at all. I have had some very well paid and stressful jobs but nothing has been harder than this! Acknowledging how hard and important it is what I am doing helps me stay confident in our choice for me to stay at home for now.

I’m a SAHM and sometimes I feel weird because I’ve worked since I was 17! Now 33 and my husband is adamant I look after myself and our son so we’re all happy. I understand it’s scary watching money go but money does come and go and your savings would probably disappear on child care faster! And you’ll miss all the fun times with your baby. Also go to boots and get some free samples of makeup. I do it. Even lush throw all the free samples at you! X

Not a SAHM but to add another point - I work solely to send my LO to nursery. After I’ve paid the nursery bill, I’m left with about £50. Obviously that will change in September but I do sometimes wonder what the point is, even if I was to up my hours I’d be in the same boat. I’d love to stay home with her, she’s growing and changing so much and it feels like I’m missing it. I’d list out all the options, and the pros and cons of each. Work out how much childcare options would cost, and how much you’d likely make.
