Anyone else feel like there’s been hardly any support from your manager after returning to work?

Yep! 👍 They've been awful watched me teach my first lesson after being back in the class only 20 days and it was a great lesson but only harped on about the one improvement I could have made so has shaken my confidence now.

@Sarah aww that sucks, yeah I’m having a tough time with the support and honestly it’s making me want to quit!

Yep, so much so that I was automatically disregarded for a promotion when I told them I was pregnant, and lost my job due to "redundancy" before I even came back. Lovely how new mums are treated in this country.

@Alex that’s horrible, I’m sure there’s something on gov.uk regarding this. If you’ve been there longer than 2 years you can go through employment tribunal. I’ve just reached out to my union representative hope there’s some way to solve the issues.

It so sad to hear how many people are not supported when returning back to work. I am also in that boat. I returned n January and last week I have a pretty bad breakdown and spoke to HR about how I felt totally unsupported and how much my confidence has been knocked. I really don’t think it’s talked about enough so you’re not even though about when you return. Since raising my concerns it’s been better but I have also changed managers (another male) who has children so understands. All I would say is speak up. It took me 4 months and I wish I did it sooner c

@Natalie I’m sorry you went through that. I just feel like there’s no support. I’m a mum to a rainbow baby and they know when I lost my first baby how much it affected me, I’ve also recently lost my dad and when I’ve spoken up nothing has changed. I’ve reached out to my union but not sure if they can even help.

@Aisha oh my that is a lot and to not feel supported either. I can’t imagine how you are feeling. It’s wrong that companies can get away with mistreating new mothers. We’re the reason they are there in the first place. Hopefully they can give you some advice on what to do x

@Natalie Thank you, yeah it’s been tough I only went back in March after 14 months off. I then asked to go back part time and they did everything to make it extremely difficult. The crazy thing is I work in a company where it’s family focused and they do so much on mental health but when it comes to it there’s no support.
