IUD gone

Hi so my IUD story I had it in for a year and I have been having severe pain I went to the ER and they told me my IUD was gone it's no longer in my uterus where it's supposed to be but last night me and my husband was having intercourse and he said he felt something stab him on the tip of his penis and it hurt and it was sharp would it be possible if my IUD slipped out of my uterus and is on the outside of my cervix.? This is my first time having an IUD I've had two children before having the IUD. Sorry for TMI
