I HAVE Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER)

D-MER is a physiological response that occurs in some breastfeeding mothers, typically right before milk letdown. Instead of the expected feelings of warmth and bonding, these mothers experience intense feelings of sadness, anger, anxiety, or even despair. It's like a dark cloud passing over what should be a beautiful moment, it actually leaves you feeling disconnected and overwhelmed.

Restlessness

Recently when I breastfeed I feel like my DMER has got worse! At night, it’s like I have restless leg syndrome all over my body and I want to thrash around - it makes me so anxious and upset. Any body else have this extreme restlessness while bfing?

Is it D-MER?

Hello 👋🏻 I googled my symptoms and D-MER came out. Every time I start feeding, the moment the letdown comes I have this deep sinking feeling in my body, the same I get when I am extremely sad or anxious. I feel very sad all of a sudden. It lasts a minute and goes away. Is it D-MER do you think ?

If you were at your OBGY’s office and there was a poster about D-MER, what would you have liked for it to contain?

The lack of awareness about D-MER is everywhere. What would you have like to see at your Dr office?
