First time mom in need of advise

Hello Texas mommas, I need your help!!! So I work in Austin at a small firm (less than 15 people in the company) so by law my boss does not have to offer any type of maternity leave but she did offer me 10 weeks unpaid. As this is my first baby I do plan on taking the entire 10 weeks, with that being said I would still have to pay for my insurance while on leave. So I looked into getting medicaid for while I’m out but I did hear that if you are on Medicaid that they will go after the father for child support paid back to the state. Has anyone else has experience or knowledge that will help?

It is true, they will automatically open a case for all of you and your babies medical costs. It’s unfortunate but happens to most people. Most of the time you will not get any of that money and it will go to the state.

@Frankie So do you know if they make the fathers pay everything back or just a part of it like (co-pays cost and or if anything else isn’t covered by Medicaid)

@Brittany that i do not know. Sorry! We got married so i could get my partners insurance to avoid this nonsense.

For Adult Medicaid, yes, but since you are pregnant, you would qualify for pregnancy Medicaid, which lasts up to a year after your delivery, depending on how much you make. Your child would also get Medicaid and for pregnancy Medicaid the father of the child does not get put on child support

@Tattianne this is amazing info!!
