Solids!

Hi all! My little girl is 5 & 1/2 months and has always had reflux. I haven’t started weaning yet but I’ve started prepping some purées and today just thought oh I’ll give her a little taste (she was already in the high chair anyway), she probably had about 3 spoons of sweet potato puree and I don’t even know how much she swallowed as most of it was around her face anyway. Since she’s eaten it though she’s being doing loads of little coughs and has spewed a bit. So my question is, is starting weaning going to be horrid at first till her poor tummy gets used to it? As even a tiny bit still set her reflux off?

My little Boy has suffered with horrendous silent reflux since he was a few weeks old. Thankfully managed, but with medication. He’s 8 months now and when we started weaning at 6 months I mainly did puree with him which I made myself, he did have finger food but I would say it mainly puree. At the beginning I wouldn’t say his reflux got ‘worse’ again as such but i definitely started hearing that gargle noise in the back of throat again and we hadn’t heard that for months, I don’t know if it was because I made the puree and it was often quite runny. I remember somebody posting whether they noticed any changes after weaning and there were a few people who noticed that same thing. Now at 8 months I don’t hear that noise again. Not sure if this is much help xx

@Amy yeah I’ve made the purées quite thin too so maybe that’s why! I never even thought about the thickness side of it for the reflux tbh was more worried about her not being able to swallow chunks/ thicker stuff haha 😂 she’s not on any medication as they didn’t agree with her and didn’t want to try omeprazole and I was really pinning all my hopes on weaning making it better not worse 🥲 fingers crossed once we start properly it’ll all be good! Xx
