To Cat or Not to Cat

My babies are almost one but we just started renting and moved here and I really want a cat! Not a kitten… I want a more mature cat that would be a good match for me/be happy in our home. I’m willing to take my time looking for the right one. But my husband is unconvinced. He thinks it would just be an extra burden since we’ve just settled (just moved/relocated) and keeping the twins and the home is enough on me than to add something else. I’ve also heard fall/winter is a bad time to get a new pet due to bad weather. Are these good reasons to not get a cat or should I explore getting myself a cat?

it won't let me change my vote, get you a cat!

I would probably wait until next year unless you find a cat you fall in love with. Mostly just because you've recently moved, it'll give you all time to settle in and give your husband time to either be okay with having one or decide he really doesn't want one, in this case, cat would 100% be your responsibility with care, expenses etc.

Cats are A*holes… just get a cat 🤣.. I have two one is so loving she was a rescue. The other who I’ve had since a kitten is only nice to me when I’m pregnant or he wants feeding x

We have two. We got one (as a kitten) when my little ones were about 2 and 6 months. About a year later we decided our cat needed a friend so I looked around for the right fit and found one who was just about the same age and we rescued him. They get along pretty well and aren't usually a burden. They are short hairs and don't shed a ton except certain times of year. Obviously it's an added chore with feeding and litter boxes but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't take me much time. They can sometimes be annoying with getting on counters or sitting on my head when I'm sleeping but they're usually a net plus in my book 😅

Cats are so easy lol. I’d do it 🤷🏽‍♀️

😻 thanks all

Actually fall and winter cats are more cuddly lolll. My cat doesn’t wanna cuddle me in the summer but cuddled me a lot in the cold season. In the shelters they have trial periods to see if the cat adapts well to your family. Like some cats are stressed with babies and mark territory or other cats adapt well to babies. Like my cat was stressed and had separation anxiety when my baby came home. But weeks later she was fine and guards outside the baby room like a dog. Also cats know babies are delicate since they see you carry them and that they are small. My cat bites my dad and play fights him but always keeps a distance from the baby and is gentle.

However what you gotta know is that cats act like toddlers. You tell them no and they wanna do it more. And that they are family like you can’t lock them outside the room, or they will paw at it and meow loudly because it makes them anxious or stressed. And ofc if your pet gets sick it can cost a lot of money. Which is why your husband might be skeptical.

Vaccinations and spaying adds up. So it’s best to get your pet at the shelter because they come with all of the vaccines and spay or neuter. Because cats who are not desexed spray ( urinate) everywhere when in heat or howl loudly and can wake your baby up

@s a r a 🥀 your cat is so cute!
