Anyone fitted with a libre machine

Yeah I have one as I’m insulin dependent. Change every 14 days and you don’t even know it’s there. Painless application. I’ve been on insulin since 16 weeks and I’m 36 weeks now. The only thing is when it’s first fitted you’ll get bizarre readings for 24 hours whilst it settles into your skin, so you’ll need to finger prick as usual then. Give it 24 hours to settle. Always double check low readings with a finger prick and know that if you sleep on the side with your sensor you can get a false low reading called a pressure reading so watch out for that. If your ordering from your gp regularly know they come directly from abbots labs and the backlog is REAL! Takes at least 15 days to be processed and shipped and delivered IF they have stock! @Ana I’m having one from the hospital I’m only 14 weeks but been on insulin since 11. I do sleep on my left so that sounds like it’s going to be fun lol. How does the app work?

I should imagine once you’ve been trained at the hospital with it you’ll be expected to reorder it through your gp and fit it yourself etc. No problem just fit it on your right arm. So the sensor works by measuring the glucose levels under the skin in the fluids opposed to the blood directly. Remember the blood finger prick is always more accurate and the sensor runs on a 15 minute delay so if using the app and your scan your sensor it will give you a reading which is likely 10-15 minutes old. So if your treating a hypo do so with a finger pricks. Remember blood is best. Libre is a guide and not a resource. The app is great as you can share your data directly with your DIP team and consultant making reviewing your CGM results easier. Easy to set up and if it’s the libre 2 plus, it will update every 5/10 minutes as long as your phone is in range. X

@Ana my consultant said something about scanning it? Will I get alerts if I’m low or will it only show you if I click on the app? Sorry for all the questions I’ll forget if I waited until the hospital 🙈 Also do you alternate arms or just move the location

I have a iPhone. I literally just scan with my phone (almost like a contactless payment) and it will give you a current reading but as long as your in range to your phone it will constantly monitor your glucose and provide readings. You will be prompted to set alarms if you go high or low, my acceptable range is 3.8 or lower is a hypo and needs attention and 7.8 is a hyper and needs to be recorded. So mine alarms if I go above or below. The app doesn’t need to open to alarm as it’s a CGM xx

I have one, self funded. I didn’t know this til recently but apparently you can only get them wet (in the bath / shower) for upto 30 mins. Sometimes a hot shower will create a little spike for me. The alarms in the night can be annoying so I put my phone on do not disturb when sleeping. I also apply my new libre on the last day of the current one to give the new one 24 hours to calibrate xx
