2nd Pregnancy- 1st trimester screening results

This is my second baby and I’m now 37(will be 38 when they’re born). My partner is really stressed out about the results of the screening, which I wasn’t really stressing about but now am! Even though the Down’s screening came back as a lower chance result at 1 in 2300, with my first child it was 1 in 10,000, which was lowest chance possible. Now I know that they have reduced the lowest chance rating to 5000 rather than 10,000 (as told by my midwife), but with the chance being a lot higher than we expected, there’s just this doubt hanging over the pregnancy now. Has anyone else experienced such a change in results between pregnancies? Would anyone care to share their results? Is the worrying for nothing?

Did you get the nipt or nhs one ?

@Bani this was the NHS one which was done at the 12week scan

I am no expert but I believe the ratings change the older the mother is. Did your results tell you if they consider you low risk? If they were concerned they would offer more tests x

I don’t think you need to worry, mine came back 1:20!! I was a right mess waiting for the result, NIPT results came back low risk. X

I would suggest to get nipt - they are way more accurate. Nhs one’s don’t calculate the adjusted risk properly

If it helps to put it into perspective it’s 0.0004% chance

@Claire yes they considered us low risk. I think because the chance increased so much that it just took us by surprise x

@Joanna my goodness! Glad yours eventually came back low risk. I think I would also have been a mess with a 1:20 x

@Kat yes thank you, this has really helped massively! It’s so hard to put things into perspective sometimes 🙈
