Neocate or Alfamino!

Afternoon ladies. My little girl is almost 5 weeks old and is on SMA Alfamino, she is having the hardest time and is suffering with severe reflux (she is on omaprazole for this) and she started with Alfamino last Friday. Before Alfamino we tried SMA Althera which didn’t help her at all. My first daughter had CMPA too and Alfamino was brilliant for her so with this in mind the doctor put our second on Alfamino too. It was either Alfamino or Neocate. Since starting Alfamino she has been more unsettled than before, massive crying spells every single night which last ages, still griping in pain and tensing up, her face rash has got worse and she is still struggling to poo and burp. I am really mindful that in the last 5 weeks she has gone from Kendamil, to Althera then to Alfamino and she has started Omaprazole and is having a bit of grope water so i am really cautious about changing formula again but today, she has started to be sick after each bottle and not wanting to take much. She is usually sick but not this much and she is really unsettled. I have tried to ring the GP but no appointments today! Has anybody tried Neocate and had any success? I know it takes a while for things to change but with our first, Alfamino stopped her cramping and calmed her down within days and this time it’s just making her worse 😭 I’m at a loss, i hate seeing her in so much pain and cramping up so much. She’s not sleeping much because of the stomach issues, it’s horrible to see! She is much much worse than our first daughter was!

Not sure if this helps but my LO CMPA was serve same as you described but with eczema, sore throat and would scream an hour after every feed. Consultant prescribed Nutrigrimen and there was no improvement. I did my own research asked the GP to prescribe Neocate and within a few days the screaming stopped and Eczema cleared up within a week he is 7 months this week and still on it and I never looked back. He was first EBF until 6 weeks Then Apitimal until 9 weeks Nutrigrimen until 10 weeks Neocate ever since. Hope this helps

@Anne thank you! I am going to ring the GP tomorrow and speak about changing her formula because it just doesn’t seem right that she is worse on Alfamino!

That’s exactly what I did ! Go with your gut! They say it can take 2-6 weeks to see a change but honestly I think if you don’t see a small improvement in a week to change it! Hope it works for you
