So my daughter is 8 and I’m pretty sure she has adhd and we are in the testing process. She doesn’t eat regular food either but a few certain safe foods. She struggles with keeping up with chores and home work is a night mare. I made my daughter a visual schedule because if not she will forget everything.

my daughter has adhd and my son is on the spectrum. i learned routines help them both and so do rewards and keeping busy. with my daughter i give her tasks and rewards. “if you clean your room you can help me cook dinner” or “if you tidy the living room you can stay outside a bit longer” that helps my kid and her adhd is intense

My daughter is 8 and I’ve known for awhile but the process was so long. She was just diagnosed this past year. Her psychologist said nothing but medication will treat her ADHD. I tried holistic herbs for a long time before she was diagnosed & they just weren’t doing the things her medication does now. Literally I had to look it as it’s something that needs to be treated. She’s doing very well emotionally and academically now. I was very against meds but that is what worked for us. Good luck, I know that it can be difficult. As for the eating, she does the same still. I try my best to cut her sugar intake during the week but that’s also difficult. We also have a chore chart that she gets to check off and then I set her a 10 min timer, make it a game so she thinks she’s beating the timer.

Yes my son. It’s a bit hard at times he’s very impulsive. Got him texted when he was 6

My 11 yr old has it, he was diagnosed around second grade. He also has sensory processing disorder. For school he started out with a 504 plan which is like special accommodations for his sensory stuff but we eventually switched over to an IEP plan to help him. It’s more goal oriented and he gets things like extra help and extra time on assignments if needed. He also takes medication which has been very helpful. Other than that it’s just about learning and adapting to his needs. We set up reminders on his phone and use lists and charts for him to check things off a lot. He’s in middle school now so organization is a a big challenge, I found a folder system that’s been helping him and he’s actually been doing great. Just little things like that. Also check out additudemag .com, it’s been very helpful for me over the yrs just learning about what adhd is and how to help him.

My 8 year old daughter has it. I had her tested as soon as I got my own diagnosis since she reminded me of me when I was younger: I can’t stress medication enough. I tried a non-stimulant first because she is petite and I didn’t want her appetite affected. We eventually switched to a stimulant 6 weeks ago. It has worked wonders for her. She isn’t constantly snacking, and her focus is a lot better. I did have a talk with her about her medication that it might make her fell not hungry, but just because her brain tells her she isn’t hungry, her tummy is still hungry. Eating hasn’t been an issue. She doesn’t have a 504 plan but does have an IEP for speech. Her speech therapist at school tested her reading comprehension and scored well. So that’s when I started considering switching her medication to help her focus more so she can complete her homework. We don’t fight at all any more about doing homework and she doesn’t complain when I ask to do help around the house.

I also keep her fairly busy. She does cheer and wanted to do violin lessons. It helps her stay on a fun schedule. We do homework in the car while we wait for her brother to get out of school so I have her full attention and there’s nothing else for her to do for a half hour. We also do protein shakes once a day, and multivitamins to help with more nourishment. We chalk it up to cheer and making her stronger.

My daughter is on Vyvanse and she does good but if she does not take it she overly hyper sometimes it’s hard to clam her down ….and if she don’t take it she won’t do her work at school she would be on 10 all day ..at home she won’t eat and she won’t clean even if I say she’ll get a prize or a snack but she’ll be the one to make the biggest mess and her brother will clean for her but it’s getting a little hard I feel like I’m failing my kids I just had a newborn so I’m trynna balance everything out and figure out how especially with her because she needs a lot of attention or she will be into everything

My son is 8 and sounds similar to your daughter! Do you know what type she has? And have you contacted the school about seeing if you can get her some help at school? We had to do a plan for my son a couple years back to allow him to have coping mechanisms in the class he was in last year. :)

The cleaning might be overwhelming for her. Maybe try down sizing on the amount of stuff she has or has access to at once. ADHDers definitely function better with less stuff. Also try labeling bins so she knows where everything goes or simplify it by having her put everything in one large toy box. You are not failing, this is a very common struggle. Also remember to give yourself some grace mama, you just had a baby, let the house be messy honestly.

My 8 year old. I limit sugar and try to make high protein treats such as peanut butter, chocolate is also a healthier sugar and fruit. I also avoid food coloring cuz it makes her so much worse. We keep a strict schedule for food, and sleep. I also encourage her to get her energy out during the day. Right now she is in Tae Kwon Do. I do have her on guanfacine to help at school. It helps mellow her out. We plan to try something in addition to help with the focus. I was totally against meds. But she was constantly getting in trouble at school and losing friends. I had to resort to it. She's doing better but struggles when her dad has her because the schedule doesn't happen and he feeds her junk and sugar.

@Heather 🌻 no not sure what type yet but I’m working on getting it checked out I know it’s hyperactive disorder too though and she does get extra help at school but I’m getting called saying she isn’t finishing her work and I do think it’s because the doctor sent her the wrong dosage of medicine and it threw everything off

@Jamie my daughter has a hard time making friends and she says one day they’ll be her friend the next day they won’t so same with her the eating thing she will refuse to eat anything if she does not want it even if she likes it if she does not want it she won’t eat she’s 7 and only 48 pounds and she will not eat nothing I cook it’s rare if she does even if it’s McDonalds same thing she has a medicine the doc gave her to give her appetite but idk if that’s even working atp

@Loni she is qualified for the 504 plan but her school won’t go along with it she took a dyslexic test and her test scores wasn’t below 60 all good and they just told me they were gonna go with she’s dyslexic and rule out her adhd

I don’t know where you live but here if they are diagnosed the school is required to accommodate. If she is on medication I’m assuming she’s been diagnosed by her dr? You may have to submit that paperwork. Don’t let them tell you no

I do STOK slightly sweetened coffee for my kiddo, Nordic fish oil /omega fatty acid vitamin/supplement (Sprouts even has an adhd/focus area for kids plus the omega supplement), I get eggs & do a “sensory” diet for him, (it’s basically still be a kiddo but to do our best reducing dyes, processed foods, low sugar minus naturally from fruit/all natural) a good probiotic like yogurt and/or once a wk Ollipop) & Momma it doesn’t have to be expensive.. walnuts have omega fatty acids. Think of how they look like the cranium/brain & explain that to the kiddo lol… the yogurt & basically a wholesome diet is done by a widowed small cleaning business owner has basically no fam to help Momma… Aldi is amazing for those diet part..! East Texas Food Bank doesn’t require anything but an ID & they generally have walnuts.. STOK (Target & a few others) slightly sweetened with maybe a dash of cream cheap at Aldi (hazelnut not the sugar free one the ingredients are crap is amazingly good) & voila…!

Absolutely get a 504 plan in place. My daughter has ADHD and is autistic. Medication and a 504 plan for school stuff is a lifesaver.

@Kilee yup I have one for my son. I play no games about it

@Loni yes she dignosed by her doctor and by a psychiatrist and they had all the paper work she even took her medication at school that way she was taking it on time and before breakfast even the paper work saying she qualified for the 504 plan but they don’t wanna do it .

They just wanna say she’s dyslexic why? idk but them test scores on the dyslexic test says otherwise
