Missed miscarriage - My experience

I'm writing this in the hope that it might help any other mamma's to be unfortunately going through anything similar. Last Wednesday I went for my 12 weeks dating scan to be told there was no heartbeat snd that baby was measuring 9 weeks 2 days. I had no idea there was anything wrong as still experiencing pregnancy symptoms. I originally opted for medical intervention however after doing some research and speaking to some other ladies on here I decided against it and opted for surgery under a general. I had to be at hospital 7.30am yesterday, I vomited all down myself on the way there whilst driving down the m1 which wasn't the best start to the day! After a morning of waiting and different sets of obs/consent forms/meeting staff/canulas fitting etc i was told to that i had to take misoprostol (this is the prostaglandin medicine that you would actually have for the medical management of miscarriage, I wasn't aware you needed to have it an hour before surgery to prep your cervix to open) now this is just my experience and I kmow everyone is different but I had a bad reaction to it. I felt my tongue and throat swell slightly. I was desperate for water obviously being nil by mouth but the tablets were 4 tablets that have to dissolve under your tongue so this really didn't help. I almost immediately began to get cramping pains down below and I started to violently shiver and have chills and i turned a purple colour. The nurse wrapped me up in a blanket and said it can be a normal reaction to the medication. Shortly after I was taken to theatre which I was so glad about. I was in a bit of distress as the medication quite quickly made me feel poorly. Once I was in theatre and hooked up to the machines they could see my body temp was low and wrapped me up in a hot blanket before I went off to sleep. That truthfully was the worst part of it all for me. When I woke up in recovery I honestly felt absolutely fine. I've suffered no bad pain at all and not needed any pain relief what so ever. As soon as I was back on the ward I went straight for a wee and had some food and felt fine. Blerding was heavy the first few hours after but nothing that i was worried about. I chilled out in bed until I was allowed to be discharged about 4 hours later. I was really surprised how well I felt after. Now the 3 week waiting game for a negative pregnancy test before I can truly put all this behind me. For anyone going through similar, I'm so sorry. Our time will come ❤️

Aww thank you for this xxx

That sounds really rough. Thanks for sharing.

Mine was exactly the same experience minus the shivers. I took the medication for another miscarriage because I didn’t want to go through another D&C to prevent a potential asherman syndrome. But I had some tissue left after naturally miscarrying. The medication didn’t work on me 🤦🏻‍♀️ I took 4 tablets and nothing happened. I took me another 3 weeks to stop bleeding. I think the emotional part makes everything worse overall.
