Weight gain

My 3 month old isn’t gaining weight and has now dropped to the lowest centile. I’ve been told to top up with formula but little man wont take it. And if he does, he vomits. Any advice please? Stressed and anxious as my breast milk clearly isn’t enough but he’s not taking any formula.

Sorry to hear this. Do you have a breastfeeding support group you can go to? Have you been referred to a feeding specialist/lactation consultant? Have you tried different feeding positions to make sure latch and milk intake is optimal? I'm finding that side lying on the bed to feed, even during the day, is best for us at the moment. In terms of formula, have you tried paced bottle feeding? It's hard doing top-up feeds with formula, especially when you're tired and stressed. I know it's easier said than done, but do try not to stress. La Leche League has some useful information here, which also includes how to increase your milk supply https://laleche.org.uk/my-baby-needs-more-milk/ Really hope little one starts to gain weight soon xx

Hi, I suggest speaking to a breastfeeding consultant, they are the only people that are going to be 100% pro breastfeedjnf and your journey. They will ensure there are no issues with that end and adjust if required. It could be so many different things like an allergy... Often babies that have CMPA struggle to gain weight. Or a tongue tie! Don't automatically assume you don't have a good enough supply, it could just be an issue with baby actually getting enough of your milk out rather than it not being there! Sending you lots of well wishes as I am sure this is very difficult for you. X

Also, you could try and express milk to give him? Also more frequent feeds might help? Do you feed from both sides? Try putting a haaka on the other breast whilst feeding him and then giving him that using paced feeding technique so he doesn't get bottle preference x

I donate my breast milk as have an over supply via a Facebook group called human milk 4 human babies. There maybe someone in your area that could help out. X
