MIL is exhausting!

We went out to eat and my in laws didn't finish their food. They were adamant for my husband to eat it, but he's no longer interested in helping them finish their food because they're grown adults and need to start eating food they order. MIL said let's pack it and then made a comment that the little one (my eldest daughter from a previous marraige will eat it). Hubby clearly said you will have to eat it, as they have been treating me and my kid like a bin and making us all eat their left overs. We heated up the food along with dinner and MIL made a face saying "who's gonna eat this" when hubby handed it to her. They then proceeded to through the whole container in the bin along with other food they wasted today. Is this toxic? Does anyone else relate? My sister once told me her mother in law also always tries to feed her the leftovers.. wtf is this all about????!!!!

This is…very strange? I don’t think I have ever met ANYONE who does this 🤣🤣 Why tf do they want other people to eat their food so badly??? I would ask them straight up 🤣

This made me remember my grandma, may she rest in peace. My grandmother on my dad’s side used to do exactly that with her food. She would get up and try to have the rest of us finish her food. My mom would take the plate, smile and put on the side 😂 Maybe it’s a generational thing, like an old lady thing lol definitely weird though. The food always got tossed because nobody was going to it eat it.

Sounds like your in laws need to start ordering 1 plate and share

This could be the weirdest thing i have ever read. These people sound mental

Agree with everyone else, that is weird AF

They were sharing a plate😫, hubby and I shared 1 meal, and his uncle & his wife shared.. we all finished our food among with appetisers & drinks that we ordered on top lol @Ashley

The fact that you are all reacting like this really validates that I'm not going mad 🤣🤣🤣 @Amy @Agata @Kassia

Yikes - this is mental — In my family we always either eat what’s there or save for leftovers & those leftovers get eaten - usually pretty fast but if ppl don’t want them we make it into something else —idk if it’s cultural or what but we don’t waste food - my in-laws are way more lax about this (honestly I think bc they from a region that doesn’t really have the starvation history my family has- tho both of us had the rule growing up if you don’t finish you’re getting served it until you do) & he’ll sometimes throw out stuff I would still eat - but this story it’s like pushy & wasteful at the same time — I would be upset on both counts 🫣

It’s definitely bizarre, but I wouldn’t say it’s toxic. I can see how it’d be exhausting!

Yeah that's super strange. I try not to order more food than I can eat when I go out but if I have something left and I know I won't eat it or it won't reheat well then I just leave it. It's gonna go to waste either way 🤷‍♀️

This is odd, because I understand the first bit from a don't waste food stand point, but to then throw it away. Is it a pass agg thing that she thinks you aren't feeding/looking after her son/grandchildren well enough?

Maybe not toxic but definitely odd/weird behavior

It’s not necessarily toxic but sadly it sounds like food or money insecurity. Does she hoard things as well or have trouble letting go? Does she keep frozen foods forever. I’d be kind but firm about it but this behavior runs deep unfortunately

It could be, as she does make other passive aggressive comments etc. She has been really overbearing and everytime she's been around she becomes worse @Sarah

She hoards things like kitchenware, pots & pans, trinkets, bedsheets etc.. I'm not too sure if she's the same with food, although she has been doing it in our house. Me and hubby are regularly checking the fridge & clearing it out, so maybe.. interesting take on this 👀 With regards to money, they are fully dependent on us & we send them maintenance every month as FIL retired 3years ago. My MIL forced hubby to pay for this full meal as her brother & wife were there. Despite already feeding them lunch, taking them shooting, buying drinks and Go Karting.. it was a long day, I could write a book, but it wouldn't all fit 😖 @Andi
