Weaning routine

When do you introduce meal times? We’re getting very close to 6 months and she is more than ready but I’ve still only been giving her a little taste here and there, more so because I’m nervous to start properly: I’ve read endless amounts on weaning but what I don’t come across often is routines/ meal times and I know the amount of formula she wants will reduce but do I offer less bottles or smaller amounts? At the minute she’s on 5x 7oz every 3 hours (sleeps through the night). So is it better to offer 8oz 4 times a day to space out the food? (Well aware it’s tiny amounts of food at this stage) TIA😊

Not until around 8/9 months. I’m EBF so can’t answer on the milk but I’d probably continue to offer the same and as they start to eat more towards the age of 1 they will probably start to reduce it themselves and you can adjust accordingly

We were told by a nhs dietitian to do it after the first or second feed of the day. It should be after the bottle as milk is still the most important thing for a while yet!

Our routine roughly looks like this: 7/8 am - 6oz 10 am - fruit purée 11am/12pm - 6oz 3/4pm - 6oz 5/5.30pm - veg purée 7pm - 6oz 10.30pm - 6oz Our baby usually wakes up once in the night for another bottle. We have not reduced the amount of formula we offer him. Hope this helps! 🙏

@Elvira very helpful thank you x

My little boy is 7 months next week, our current routine is; 6/6.30am - 8oz bottle 8.30/9am - breakfast (usually porridge and fruit puree) 11am - 8oz bottle 12.30/1pm - lunch (usually finger foods such as toast with butter or cream cheese, cucumber sticks, yoghurt with blueberries) 3/3.30pm - 8oz bottle 5pm - dinner (veg puree and melty stick) 7.30pm - 8oz bottle and bed I am planning on starting to make the purees more lumpy and introducing fish/meat so he starts getting used to texture. I always let him feed himself for the first 5 or 6 spoonfuls to help with coordination and self feeding. All finger foods he feeds himself (I sometimes have to put it in his hand). Who knows if im doing it right, its a minefield!x

I started at 4 months with first tastes. This was done at lunch time 1 hour after his bottle. He is now having 2 meals a day either yoghurt or porridge with a fruit puree for breakfast and then an evening meal of combined vegetables. All meals are give. 1/1.5 hours after bottles. I haven’t dropped any bottles or changed that at all. All the mums at my baby group said their babies didn’t ‘drop’ a bottle until 8/9 months old. I will be introducing grains, pulses, meat and fish in the next week and around 7 months I will introduce a lunchtime meal also.
