Weaning

Hey everyone! I’m finding the idea of weaning really really overwhelming & I have absolutely no idea why?! There’s sooo many different recommendations and I thought weaning was literally just a couple of spoonfuls of purée yet I’m seeing people on TikTok feeding their 6 month olds full on meals and I just feel like I have no idea what I’m doing🫠 Does anyone have any tips or suggestions please?? From a very stressed first time mum😂😂😂

Solid start app is really good, also start with 1 new thing a day and check in that app how you can cut it for safe eating for your little one. Also I prefer babys led weaning as they start to eat what we eat very quickly. Allergy usually you'll see in few hours if they have rush etc, no need to give one thing for 3 days 🙂 I used to follow one lady that made many videos about baby's led weaning I'll try to find it 🙂

Here is her website, ahe does some free workshops and has emails too. Can look for her IG also 🙂 hope it gives some clearance 🙂 https://www.babyledweaning.co/

Don't listen to everything you see on social media, you don't know the back story for example those babies could have been having tastes from 4 months. Weaning isn't so stressful when you follow a reliable source like Solid Starts or Ella's Kitchen. You start with single veggies, best to start with green veg like peas or broccoli, then you try another single veg, like carrots once they're OK with these new flavours you start pairing 2 veg purees together. Once pures are well established you can move to baby-led weaning. This is probably what you're seeing on TikTok. But, if you get an appointment with the HV they can give you all the weaning information

Babies don’t learn to eat asap lol 😂 don’t believe everything you see in TikTok. I understand the feeling of being overwhelmed, solid start app has really good guidance on how to cut foods for babies to grasp and also what not to offer. Just remember, no salt/sugar/honey/vinegar. Depending on babies, food for one is for fun and whole point is to check allergies, let them explore n learn how to feed/eat, exposing to flavours, teaching skills along the way. Milk is still main source of nutrition for first year, it can take them 9-12 months around… to eat more. Do not suddenly assume they need to eat plateful at 6-7 months. Make sure they’re in secured seat and always b in front of them vigilant for any accident to occur. Try not to worry, make it fun for u both 😄 Introducing vegetables is good start rather than fruits but there is no right or wrong. Gdluck

I remember this feeling with my first! It felt incredibly overwhelming.. But literally they would just have a few spoonfuls of puree and that would be it. Or my little one loved a strawberry.. but most the time they have such a small amount still. I remember seeing all these fancy plates and each section someone had made from scratch

With my first I used the book ‘how to wean your baby’ by Charlotte Stirling-read and found it really useful. It has a plan of different foods to introduce and guides you through how to introduce allergens etc. You can either do finger foods or purées or both - if you wait til 6 months and your baby is showing signs of readiness, there’s no reason they can’t have proper food rather than puree as long as you serve it appropriately. The Solid Starts app is really good for checking how to serve different foods. My little boy preferred finger food over puree so we went with that, just follow your baby’s lead 🥰

I did the same as @Anna, I used the same book and Solid Starts as recommended a few times. Also worth checking in with your local health visitors/children’s centre as they might have a free weaning workshop like they do in my area.
