New diagnosis

Help… just been told I have GD at 18 weeks due to a round of bloods GP did last week. I know it’s common but still makes me feel deflated about it. Any good tips to meals swaps , good foods to try?

Just make sure you have a lot more veg/protein than carbs. Lunch I have eggs with one slice of toast. Breakfast Greek yogurt with a bit of fruit! The first few weeks you’ll be figuring out what spikes you and doesn’t. So don’t be too hard on yourself x

Following as also found out yesterday

A lot of it is trial and error too, I’m lucky I didn’t have to change too much for a long time (diagnosed at 17weeks) but the further along you get the more your tolerance drops so something that was fine for me at 20weeks, I now can’t have at 34weeks, Pack out meals with veg where you can and try not to eat later in the evening worked best for me xx

https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/ This is a really good place to start when you’re first diagnosed. Lots of helpful tips and free recipes to have a go of.

It’s trial and error - what works for one person won’t for another as everybody’s tolerance is different. E.g I can eat wholemeal pasta and sweet potatoe but not wholemeal rice and breads are very tricky. Use the first few weeks to try see what you can tolerate - try having a quarter of your plate with a wholemeal carb and the rest veg and protein and see what happens, then try a different carb etc. iv found i can eat more at dinner than breakfast so that can be a factor also.
