Do you still have to pre load the spoon for your little one?

Do you pre load the spoon/fork and then they feed themselves once it's full? If not, how did you encourage them to do it themselves. My little one refuses, or just uses it to play with his food.

My little boy won’t use a spoon or fork yet he just throws them on the floor and uses his hands still x

In the last 2-3 weeks my little boy has started scooping his own food out of a bowl with a spoon e.g. baked beans, porridge, yoghurt. We make sure we use a suction bowl on our glass table as he doesn't know to hold the bowl still with his other hand yet so it helps to stop the bowl moving around. I usually have to help him get the last scrapes from the bowl but otherwise he's ok. Same with a fork - he's pretty good at stabbing food now but depending on what he's eating he might need a bit of help to stab through it if it's something slightly firmer. But good quality suction plate / bowls really help. We use the Dodl cutlery which has hugely helped him to navigate using them independently.

It depends what it is. Yogurt in a pot she eats with a spoon and with her dinners I give her a fork and then hold her hand to demonstrate how to scoop. She’s just started to get it. But it does depend on food consistency. She loves using her hands still too haha

My little can do it pretty well I think it just depends some catch on faster than others ,my little girl can eat her yoghurt with a spoon by herself ...but this has only been resently so don't worry if they can't do it just yet ,they will catch up eventually ♥️

Just time and practice. We introduced spoon and fork l fairly early, at 9-10m and from about 13 she started using them properly, last month she barely drops any food and does about 80% of soup too (but I use measuring spoon for that)
