postpartum

I’m so worried about the first few weeks after the baby will come, my husband is the only support I got and we’re first time parents so no previous experience. I started to prepare some freezer meals and stock up in grocery but don’t know what should i do more to make this time better for all of us

Show your support

I’m sure you’ll be great, but If it’s in your budget, consider a postpartum doula to help out a few hours at a time when you both could use additional support. They can help with light housework and/or take care of baby while you sleep. We’re long distance from both our families, so while our parents will help us for the first few weeks/before Xmas, we’ll hire some in-home support before and after my husband goes back to work. It’ll be important for you to rest & allow your body to heal, so not overdoing it may be hard without additional support.

What we did as first time parents: I would do all the nighttime feedings, I let my husband sleep, and then once 7am rolled around, he would take over while I napped/slept. This worked well for us.

I’m in the same situation as you, I’m worried too. You’re definitely not alone. I am preparing a bedside caddy with any medication I might need, snacks, electrolytes, basically any necessities for baby and me that can be easily accessible. My husband and I have had a lot of conversations about the postpartum period and he is really supportive. Luckily I have a friend nearby that is willing to help us if we need anything.
