@đGeorgiađ do they hunt the birds?
It depends on the cat. Only one of mine will hunt the birds. I don't actually let her out. She's just really sneaky. My other only hunts moles as well.
@Rachel they can do but they rather mice and lizards. In my 8 years ish of having them out side, they only brought in 5 birds. That was when my son was born in 2020 and put them next to the Moses basket and then another 3 birds when my daughter was born in 2021 and done the same thing with the Moses basket again. It was a welcome gift to my babies from them. But before and after they havenât done it since. We also have bird feeders and also have one with out food so we put cat fur in it from them and they use it in their nests.
No, and I have a lot of cats. All of mine were rescued from feral colonies and most have no interest in returning outside ever again. Outdoor and indoor/outdoor cats have a significantly shorter average lifespan than indoor only cats, are at risk at all times they are outside from people/predators/etc, and are bad for the environment around them. Studies have been done showing that people only ever see a small fraction of what animals their outdoor cats kill too, so she very likely is killing birds and you wonât even know. You can however have a catio built or if that is too difficult for whatever reason some cats do enjoy leashed walks. My youngest girl goes out on a harness and leash combo and loves it.
Cats are cold blooded killers and will hunt for fun. If they want to be outside consider a catio or leash training! My cat use to loveeee going on walks and it prevented him from killing baby bunnies and any protected species
Iâve seen some very sad situations as a result of cats getting outside. I would say itâs best to keep her indoors . I know itâs hard cause they seem so desperate to get out!!đ
only on a harness every now and then
@Zena we have a rescue that was also a feral cat. She was super wild when we first got her and now she's the biggest indoor cuddle bug ever. She has no interest in being outside ever again.
I won't get into details but I unfortunately lost a cat to a really awful situation that would've been prevented if she hadn't been let outside. At the time I thought it was for the best because she seemed to love going outside so much, but it wasn't worth what happened to her and 9 years later I still feel guilty. Outdoor cats are at risk of SO many horrible things that you just can't control at all. My cats now are fully indoor and all future cats I have will be too. My 2 cats I have now are both leash trained so they can get the exercise and stimulation in a safe way, and they took to it really well
Inside only! Cats are not meant to go outside! Research has found that cats have contributed to the extinction of 63 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles! So sad.
Inside only. Caveat, there are some great ways to let your cat safely enjoy the outdoors. For them and the local birds. You could figure out a little catio, for example. I've seen little tents that you can put them in too. Or harness train her to go on walks with you (we have a neighbor with two cats they've harness trained and they only go out with them supervised.
@Jennifer donât know where youâve heard that theyâre not meant to go outside. Since the beginning of times cats have been outside.
Nođđ my cat is white and long hair and he was too expensive too, i canât afford him to get taken away or something to happen to him
No, my cats are strictly indoors. They do have harnesses and leashes I have taken them out on but they don't particularly like being out. They just freeze up and hide under my bushes.

My mom has 5 and all are in/out. Birds no longer come into her yard but it is funny to watch the squirrels taunt the cats while getting some seeds đ
I donât let her out because I live in a city. So she would get run over by a car or someone can steal her. They steal pets at delis in nyc so ik she would get stolen. Sometimes she has left the apartment door if someone forgets to close it fast enough. But she comes back.
My cat kills rats and flies and those giant roaches but I wouldnât want her killing birds. I feel like the bird would peck her loll also feel bad for the birds. But I hate rats so she can go kill those
Yes I have 2 Maine coons
