Hair falling out

Since finding out I am pregnant my hair has been falling out so badly. I’m now 14 weeks with no sign of my hair loss slowing down. I have spoke to pharmacists and they just say that sometimes that happens in the first trimester due to hormones. By the time the baby is here and my postpartum hair loss starts I’ll have none left! Does anyone have any tricks or products that helped them? Has anyone else got this as a symptom? TIA

It might be worth speaking to your GP. It might just be hormones but my sister had this and it turned out she had low iron when they did blood tests. She was recommended not using heat on her hair, wearing protective styles like plates and using oil etc.

Hi! Are you taking vitamins? I swear by pregnacare. I took it all through my first pregnancy and then switched to the breastfeeding ones when I was pp and my hair has never been better. I didn’t get the pp hair loss either which I was dreading. I always struggled with thin lank hair before. xx

@Jenny thank you for this. I’ll ask for updated bloods at my next appointment and see what they say!

@Rachel yes I take pregnacare every day, the pharmacist said I need to take complete vitamins but I am anyway they just don’t seem to be helping. I’ve had barely any other symptoms so I should think myself lucky! It’s just worrying that it seems to just continue week on week

@Darcy ahh ok 😞 maybe they’re not as good as I thought then! I really hope you get to the bottom of it 💕💕 xx

@Rachel thank you so much. I’ve ordered some natural hair oil so I’ll try that too!

Wash hair max twice a week, I have struggled with hair loss for years, worse in first trimester too, I used palmers shampoo and conditioner, but find one with no sulphates in, and find one that works for your hair x

@Sabrina thank you for that advice. I’ve been so scared to brush it so I just wash it when I absolutely have to and then leave it in a loose bun tied with a soft scrunchie during the day. I brush it really gently with a wide tooth comb in the shower when I have conditioner in but apart from that I just leave it. I’ve always brushed it out wet after a shower but I can barely brush it at all now, it’s very scary! I’ll have a look at alternative shampoo and conditioner thank you x
