Hand foot and mouth

Hello everyone, My boy developed all HFM symptoms today, poor thing! It’s the first time he has is, I’ve read basic info online but wanted to hear how it goes in reality . He’s turning 3 tomorrow and has a party planned on Saturday, should we cancel or he should be fine by then? Thank you for sharing!❤️

Hiya, your poor son! My just turned 3 year old had it a month ago and her symptoms were very mild. Spots of legs and bum area but didn’t seem itchy. She had a temperature but was otherwise fine. Her baby brother got the rash much worse but again seemed fine. I think it the symptoms and severity really varies from child to child

Ugh poor boy it’s such a horrible one!! First time my son had it he only had the sores in the throat and mouth so couldn’t eat and was in a lot of discomfort but otherwise fine, 2nd time he had it very recently just before he turned 3 and had it much worse. Temperature, sores in the mouth, no appetite, and the blisters all over his body. I caught it too and had the worst sore throat 😭 So it really depends how badly he gets it but they can be contagious until the spots scab over - probably best to inform your partygoers just in case ( although nurseries let kids go in with it so it tends to spread quite easily anyway!!) Really hope he feels better quickly!

@Emlyn Bless them! Mine has sores in the mouth, he’s bothered by it, but not too much, hope it doesn’t get worse and goes away quickly! I also have a 5 month old, poor guy catching every single thing his brother brings from the nursery🤦🏻‍♀️😢

@Constance Oh no! Bless you both! That’s not fun to be sick around kids! Couldn’t resist clicking on your profile, what a gorgeous family😍 Did your youngest catch it as well? I have a 5 month old and HFM is the last thing I want for him, he’s already been through a lot with all the bugs his brother is bringing from the nursery… Will definitely let the guests know the situation, hope he recovers quickly and we will be able to keep the party and cheer him up🥳

As mentioned by others, I think it really depends how bad they get it. My boy got it 2 weeks ago (he turns 3 next week) and it wasn’t bad at all. He didn’t mind the spots and his eating wasn’t effected too bad. He was completely fine in himself, was playing and wasn’t needing to sleep anymore than normal. He wanted more cuddles but generally was himself. I’d say if he is generally ok, the party can still go ahead. I’d just let people know so they can decide whether to attend. I found people looking at me when I took my kid out and about (probably presuming it was chickenpox!) so good to give people a heads up.

@Anna Aw thank you! ☺️ We tried to keep my youngest apart but he’s on his feet now so was impossible, he ended up getting it but is quite a tough guy and it didn’t seem to bother him 😂 With a 5 month old you may be able to keep them apart enough for them to dodge it! 🤞🏼 Really hope your son gets to have his party!! 🎉

Thank you ladies! You’ve been really helpful❤️ He’s been miserable today, but seemed better towards the evening, fingers crossed he starts to feel better from now on and will be in his best shape for the birthday party. Little party never kill nobody🥳
