Mam teats

My 3 month old is really struggling with her feeds recently, will take it to begin with but as soon as we stop and burp her she refuses to take the bottle again and is just crying for about 20-30 mins before taking it again. We always get a few burps out when feeding so I don’t think it’s gas. When she is settled it takes her so 20-25 mins to actually finish her bottle and always turning her head away so thinking of changing her test size. She’s always so frustrated when feeding now. She’s currently on size 2 teats and thinking of going to size 3 but it says it’s for 4+ months. Has anyone given their baby bigger teats before the recommended age?

Sounds like she needs to size up, I’d just recommend pace feeding for a week or so with it so she gets used to it. The guides are just a guide, all babies are different feeders x

Apparently size 3 are super super fast and a lot of babies struggle with it, so I’d maybe delay if possible. My baby is 5 months and still on size 2. Sometimes they go through a stage of just being easily distracted. Could you just let her drink as long as she wants and then burp her when she’s finished? Mine started doing similar to yours for a while and I just let her carry on drinking until she told me she was done and burped at the end.

@Siobhan yeah we don’t stop her drinking to burp her we’ve always waited for her to stop herself 🤷🏼‍♀️

My little one was starting to get that way with his bottles and he's 3 and a half months old. We switched to the size 3 mam teats a few days ago to test it, and he's now brilliant! Back to his happy self taking his bottles with no problems again 🥰 he had been getting frustrated with his bottles for about 2 weeks before we gave in and tried the size 3 teats.

He's also gone from taking 20-30 minutes to drink his bottle to taking 5-10 minutes now that he's on size 3 teats. He's definitely happier in himself now thanks to it, and a lot less fussy.

My little one had a tongue tie which we saw a specialist for who also advises on lactation. With the correct latch it is supposed to take 25-30 minutes for a bottle feed with paced feeding. If it is too fast they can take on air, not register whether they are full or not and also certain digestive enzymes may not be released causing the milk to ferment in their tummies.
