Nasal Flu Vaccine & Egg Allergy

Hi all, My daughter is booked in for the nasal flu vaccine tomorrow but in a bit concerned as she has an allergy to raw egg. I’m unsure how severe her allergy is as we haven’t ever let it get that far. Mums if your child has an egg allergy and have had the flu vaccine have they had any reactions? For reference recently when we were baking cakes she licked the spoon without me looking and her face broke out in hives. No other symptoms. She also doesn’t react if egg is cooked in food I.e cakes

So the only time they say about egg is if they've had an allergic reaction to egg that's ended in ITU, even then they can still give it but at a hospital setting :) there is an injectable version of the nasal but it has to be approved and isn't the live vaccine but is technically an option :)

@Bobbie Wilson Thankyou for replying. I did call the doctors to check but they didn’t give me much information sadly! She’s never in hospital for her reactions. She had allergy testing when she was 6 months old and it showed up their so we don’t know the full extent but am hopeful if she can eat eggs in cakes it’s unlikely she will be refused the vaccine! Will keep her antihistamines on me just in case 😂

Hello, I dont have any knowledge on raw egg allergy and vaccines now my son had CMPA (milk allergie) and we have always be super clear with his doctors and reminding them ( it was life threatening allergy) Before every appointment before they prescribed any medecine and they letted us know when they would not recommend him a vaccine and why ect ... So tomorrow I would go in and remind them your child has that allergy and you need to be sure it wont be harmful to her !

Also would add, little ones can outgrow allergies ! My son was deadly allergic to cows milk protein until the age of 18 months !

@Bréa yes absolutely! My daughter had CMPA to and is pretty good with most things dairy but I don’t think she would be able to tolerate a full cup of cows milk ! X

@Alexandra haha I've recently have been "trying " to see if he is really 100% non Allergic anymore 😅 but im too scared so I always end up taking his cup away after a few sip 😅 We discovered his allergie his was 6 months old we ended up in emergency in a non European country worst nightmare but I didn't know what he was allergic to so a week later we ended up again in emergency for anaphylaxis shock 😅 dont wanna try it anymore it is scary it is the worst life experience I ever had but he is 100% way better than what he was but as he didn't grew up eating cheese or drinking milk he still doesn't show lots of interest in it

We were told by our gp the nasal spray contains egg. They can do an injection instead x

Added this from the PGD (the instructions on who can give the vaccine, who can have it ect) just for full reassurance:) JCVI has advised that, except for those with severe anaphylaxis to egg which has previously required intensive care, children with an egg allergy can be safely vaccinated with LAIV in any setting (including primary care and schools).

@Becky that contains aluminium though. Just saying x

Update: she had it this morning and has been fine. Nurse gave me a call yesterday explaining it’s the safer option unless she’s had anaphylactic shock before.
