Fed up with the midwives now....

My midwife is insisting that I do a 40 minute round trip JUST to get my blood pressure checked, even though I've not had high blood pressure throughout the pregnancy!! I've got a 3 year old and 19 month old who I'd have to find childcare for or take them with me... it's a little bit ridiculous, I'd spend more time travelling there and back then I would at the actual appointment. Trying to think of a polite reply to tell her I'm not going 😂

I’ve had to buy my own and do it myself at home

I would just say exactly that! Do you have a doctors surgery / pharmacy near you? Might be an idea to pop down there and see if they can take your blood pressure quickly and then you could text it over to the midwife lol

Can’t you ask for it to be done at your gp? I’d politely say that given I have 2 children under 3 and pregnant, logistically travelling 40mins for a blood pressure check up does not seem reasonable. Could you please work with me and my gp so I can have this done there.

I was told to do an hour round trip to have my CO2 levels done, because I’d blown a 4 (after being stuck in heavy traffic on a boiling hot day, so sat in my car with my windows down!!) - it’s really ridiculous!

I've sent a blunt but friendly email saying I'm not prepared to do the journey. If they insist that much they can come to me. I'm not worried and he'll be here in 2 weeks anyway 🤷‍♀️

What's their reasoning for getting you to travel? Do you usually have to travel that far? Surely it isn't urgent

@Katie Yeahh that's the usual place for midwife appointments. I'll go if it's a full appointment, but just for a bp check it's a bit much. They haven't given a reason why they're insisting on it so I'm not going to it x

Why so far away? Perhaps your GP or local pharmacy could check it for you closer to home

Are you sure it’s purely for bp. At this gestation in pregnancy they want to monitor bp and urine to rule out the possibility of preeclampsia developing as well as keeping an eye on yours and babies well being. You can contact the community team management and decline the care but they have to be involved in that decision as they have to discuss risks of missed concerns with you

@Ceri-Ann It genuinely is just a blood pressure check, which is why I've declined it because I've not had an issue with my blood pressure so far My regular routine appointment for everything else is next Monday

@Nicole That's just where my local midwife unit is

So weird. Just say "no thankyou, I will see you on Monday"

@Natalie ah ok. Makes me grateful mine are held at a children's centre a short walking distance away. They should be making it easier for you not harder.
