Yes anyone can apply you may not get it depending on if you are eligible though I believe you need to be on one eligible benefit x

You can apply but unlikely to get if your not receiving at least 1 benefit x

Does that include child benefit? x

@Bella it doesn’t has to be something like UC it’s all on here https://www.gov.uk/sure-start-maternity-grant/eligibility but like Tasmin said most get rejected I did unfortunately x

I was told if it was rejected, apply again. Ridiculous how you’d be better off having kids and not working x

@Bella my thoughts exactly!! My partner earns just over £2k a month so we’re not eligible for any UC even though my maternity pay is fuck all but if he was to quit his job and go on benefits we’d be better off financially because we’d be getting more money from UC than what he’s currently earning lmao. It’s fucked up really because we barely get by but can’t get any help haha

@Dana it’s a joke I’m in the exactly same position as you 😩

It’s literally a joke!! Contribute tax for years and years and get no help in return. No wonder the country is in the state it’s in.

@Bella 100%

Do you have to give it back?

@Lauren Searle no but it's a 1off payment and you must apply beofe your child is 6months. X

@Elle (i can't see waves) thank you xx

You can just apply for child benefit first and then you will be eligible

@Agata unfortunately child benefit is not eligible to then receive the grant
