There are actually remote offerings for interior designers if that is something you feel more comfortable & confident trying! 🫶🏼

I would look into remote design jobs. You can offer services via Nextdoor.com or Fivver.com as well. Also if your husband is looking into something more stable, trade positions are always needed and make better money then service jobs here. Also the military is offering sign on bonuses of up to 50k right now and will pay for your child’s college and cover all benefits/housing.

It makes me so sad that you had such an amazing profession in your home country but don’t feel you can do it here in the US. You should go for what you like to do!

@Parker 又 I know but nobody calls me back i applied many times. I think as a new immigrant I can’t work as an interior designer before one year of living here. That’s what my friends told me (we worked together in our mother country and they are living in the US since 2 years).

Ahhh I seeee I see, putting in “remote work for non us citizens” on sites like indeed might help you out the most!

@Tiff He has no experience in trading. He is an Architect too interior designer and construction supervisor. But you know companies in the US don’t accept new immigrants in this field. So we have to wait until we complete a year of living here to apply in our fields

@Melanie I am passionate about my profession. I’ve dreamed of it since I was eight years old. However, I knew what it would cost to move here, and I was ready to make that sacrifice. Especially since it’s a temporary sacrifice; I just need to hold on for about a year here to be accepted by companies in my field. That’s why I’m currently looking for remote work in any area, as long as it allows me to live and gradually climb the ladder.

@Parker 又 Thanks for ur advice u r really cute ✨️

I try to be helpful when I can! & Aw thank you! Also Btw I believe the “trades” @Tiff is referring to is like plumbing, construction, carpentry & electrical work!

@Parker 又 Oh, I understand better now. Thank you for the advice 🙏I will pass it on to him. I hope he finds a better job as well

If there is a way for him to link with other immigrants in the construction industry I would absolutely start networking and talking with them because my Uncle owned a construction company in DC and was an architect and would only hire immigrants because they were better at the various jobs and more reliable and he would keep things under the table until they had whatever paperwork needed for future verifiable work here. I’m sure there are groups online, you can search Reddit or Facebook or even talk with local immigrant support groups…He would go and meet alot of them at Lowe’s, Home Depot or other job sites and just talk with them and offer work. Good luck mama! I hope you guys can settle in and be able to work in your fields soon!

Of course! I wish you the best 🫶🏼🫂 the other thing too, you are both able to do work as independent contractors (aka self employed) without any official citizenship status. You do have to say self employment taxes & income tax on whatever your income from that ends up being; but it is absolutely a thing that yall would be allowed to do!

@Parker 又 omg great point

@Tiff I almost forgot until i remembered my old neighbors did that & built a landscaping business where he helped all his friends & family get a job while they immigrated & got their families here (:
