Potty Training

What is the best way to potty train my 2yr old please? I'm at a loss as this is my first time doing all this. I have a potty, toilet training seat, step, pull ups and underwear but other than that, I'm stumped. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

We have a 2 year old - our first too, I’ve read that we should look for cues, and not force it, let them take the lead when they’re ready.

100% be led by them, if you try and force it when they’re not ready they’ll just get distressed and you’ll have lots of cleaning to do. I think there’s no right way to potty train. With my eldest we left the potty out and she mostly just played with it to start with, put toys in it etc. she went through a long phase of wearing ‘big girl pants’ either over her nappy or over her trousers 😂. Then one day just told me she needed a wee and went to the potty. I would introduce slowly personally, and then go nappy free and take a few days of mess for them to get the hang of it.

If they are showing signs of being ready (able to tell you they’ve been), I’d have them at home for a couple of days, naked from the waist down, with the potty in the room. Frequently reminders to use the toilet and lots of praise when they do. Then introduce pants I tried this with my little boy a few times, the first couple he would just wee on the floor so we went back to nappies for a few more months, the last time he was ready and just started using the potty or toilet all the time
