AQA marking

Can someone explain the AQA marking? How does it all work? It is just GCSE level marking and can you do it as a primary teacher? It is difficult? Is the money worth it? Can I do it alongside my full time teaching job?

I think it differs between subjects. I mark for spanish. Speaking wasn’t worth it but marking the writing I find quite manageable around working full time.

I did this a few years ago and I seem to remember that they wanted to know if I had taught the subject (and at what level) in the past few years. That being said I know that some retired teachers mark so it may not be required. It's GCSE and A-Level but you get to choose the one you sign up for. The money is ok. You get less in your first year as they give you fewer papers. You are paid by the mark if you see what I mean. I did it when working full time and pregnant, it was every evening for about a week plus the whole weekend. I don't think I could do it now when working 0.4 and with a toddler, I would just be too tired. I would advise signing up now if you can, some subjects get full very quickly - it took me 3 years to get on.

It depends what subject you want to do - I mark secondary English and you wouldn’t be able to do that without teaching the GCSE course but the money is good and you can do it alongside full time teaching, it’s just intense for those 3-4 weeks!
