Beginning to hate being a stepparent

It’s tough raising someone else’s kid and then seeing their shitty traits come out of them. So unrewarding. Ive loved on this girl since she was 1 and a half and now she just stares a whole through me. Shes five now.

This is about the same timeframe and age I’ve started to back away from my stepdaughter, too. The screaming, yelling, being rude… I’m so over it 😞

@Lauren it makes me dread when she comes over. His mom condones her behavior. Its only ever about what you do for her. Its a guilt trip. “She doesnt get what her sister gets with having both parents”

You’re not alone 🩵 I dread our parenting weeks.. but I don’t want to wish away my life 😫 my daughter is similar- what gifts did she get this week? She’s scared of everything- she demands her dad to be with her all the time- bathroom, hold her hand til she falls asleep 🙄 I’ve learned to just step back when her and her brother are home. I focus on my baby and it’s like a me and baby week 🥰 I’m sure others would say have you talked to your man about it? But mine would be so offended and mad if I told him these things 🥴

@Lauren I try to focus on just me amd my baby but then it puts off the idea that all I care about is my baby and not her anymore. His mom makes her the center of everything and her feelings. I have talked to him and he sees it happening too. He always feared she would pick up her mothers traits and her way of life but his mom is the enabler and she dont listen to us

I’m so sorry 😞 you have a baby now too. I don’t know your faith, but when I’m feeling like that I pray for myself and my daughter 🙏🏻 I try to remember God loves her too, and it’s challenging but it’s building my character. Maybe it’s a different season for you two.. you have every right to take more ‘breaks’ but continue doing your best 🙏🏻

Dread my step kids coming 5 and 7 and their whole attitude/ traits is their mother and it’s toxic

@Xena its just tough because all these are learned traits. Unfortunately my step daughter’s mom has mental issues so I am hoping that she doesn’t have to suffer from that, but I feel bad for my husband. He is always telling me how guilty he feels for putting his daughter in this situation.
