Do you need extra calories the whole time your breastfeeding or only before they have weaned onto solids?

You you still need to have additional calories even when you are breastfeeding a toddler that is also eating food? I didn’t think so but I’m constantly hungry and my ex keeps saying it’s because I need more calories as I’m still breastfeeding and he will be drinking larger amounts than before. But sure,y as they eat food they won’t take as much from you? I mean he is on the boob 24/7 but still? Google won’t give me a straight answer.

I think as long as you are producing milk you will be burning extra calories obviously the amount is going to vary. For me personally I’ve needed to eat a lot more than usual to just maintain a weight that’s lower than my pre pregnancy weight whilst breastfeeding and that’s regardless of how old he has been, I’ve also been just as hungry throughout my breastfeeding journey. If you are hungry that is your body telling you need to eat.

You personally need the calories just so you can maintain the supply. But if like you’re trying to wean them then you don’t really need it. But it’s just to do with you. It doesn’t change the breastmilk at all to help them have more or less calories

It definitely depends on the child and how much they want. But if you’re still wanting to feed and are okay with them being all the time you need to eat and drink to maintain supply. B ur bid you want it to get lower then you could eat or drink less/not feed as much to help

It isn't much like an extra banana or small yogurt cup a day.

I was hungry 24/7 during breastfeeding but now that I’ve stopped I only eat like once a day plus a snack

Ahh, I mean I knew that just producing milk would mean your burning more calories however I thought because they are not exclusively drinking milk anymore and they have drastically reduced the amount they are drinking throughout the day, that you would still need to be eating more calories or as much more as when they were just drinking milk. I mean.. I did think that they would be drinking more in one sitting simply because their older and so able to hold a lot more however because that’s not non stop throughout the day I just thought the calories needed would be less too🤦🏽‍♀️ I feel like I’m eating non stop, need to find some healthy alternatives but when I check my weight it hasn’t moved one bit (I’m still in the healthy range). I just can’t curb the hunger @Grace a banana has about 90 calories and a yoghurt pot can vary from just under 100 to well over 200.. and they say while breastfeeding you need an extra 340-400 calories.. so just having a yoghurt or a banana simply isn’t enough.

The extra calories are for your own energy levels, it doesn’t have an effect on supply x

@Shay it is different for everyone, that was all I needed. And if you don't like my advice I would say just move on 🤷‍♀️ maybe speak with a health professional.

Definitely need the extra calories. I’m still breastfeeding and she’s almost 13 months and I lost tooo much weight in the last 3 months

@Grace okay no need to be rude, you didn’t state that was what you needed.. you said it wasn’t much as if to say that’s the case for all women breastfeeding.. but okay girl👍🏽 I was just saying🙄 @Jessica my own energy levels are terrible! I’m struggling to wake up and get the motivation to do anything in the day🤦🏽‍♀️ @Courtney I lost a lot of weight for a good 5-6 months after I had him and then it stopped and I have been the same weight since. I mean I’m happy I’m not gaining weight but it feels like no matter what I do, I’m always hungry!

@Shay I struggle with fatigue too and have lost so much weight since breastfeeding my first baby 3 years ago, now feeding my 7 month old. I’m trying to get more calories in but I don’t always feel hungry! I need to drink more water as well

@Shay ok, I wasn't being rude, I would say just stop tagging me if you don't like my advice.
