Fragmin injection

I am 2 weeks post partum and I have been given fragmin injection for 6 weeks. Still have 4 weeks to go. However, I am struggling with this as I hate needles, and the injection really hurts. Any tips/advice on how to reduce the pain or manage it. Thanks

@Sophie thank you x

I used an ice cube on my tummy just before the injection. You can still feel the stinging of the liquid but it really helped me with the needle going in! X

@Sam oh! Will give that a try as well x

Worth a shot! It made things more bearable for me, but I only had them for 10 days. Good luck xx

I’ve had to do these daily for a little over a year now 😵‍💫 (you get used to it) but definitely helps to relax as much as you can so you aren’t tensing and grab as much skin on tummy or thigh as possible, let the skin go with needle still in after injecting and then pull the needle out and press the site if you need to x

@Tash I am only 2 weeks in, and I have already called the hospital seeking an alternative. Sadly, they couldn't offer me any. Do you inject it yourself? My mum does it for me as I am too scared to do it myself. I'll try relaxing, as I already start to tense up as soon as I see the needle 😅

Poor you! I can’t relate because I don’t have a fear of needles and yes I do it myself. My husband has done it twice because he wanted to try but messed up and made me laugh and I definitely bruised more then - because my muscles had tensed! Hope you can try to keep your mind off it or use something sensory on another part of your body yourself like a hairbrush on your arm, looking away whilst your mum does the injection?

I had some blood thinners and have a huge needle phobia, definitely get some numbing cream I used it 30 mins before and just covered with cling film until it was time to inject. My husband did them but I did the pinching, my dad did the first one as he was a paramedic and he just told me to pinch as hard as I could when it went in, it provided a distraction as I was more concerned about the pinching pain and it seemed to work while I had to do them. Tried my leg first but it bruised and was much more painful than my stomach. Just want to say well done as I know how much I hated it x
