Maternity Allowance

Are you still entitled to Maternity Allowance if you left your job before applying? I was employed full time during the test period they've given but left in March when I found out I was pregnant, I saw that as long as you worked for atelast 26 weeks within the test period you are entitled and confirmed that on their online calculator. Can anyone confirm they've received it under similar circumstances? Thanks ☺️

You need to have worked 26 weeks in the 66 weeks before your due date

I was made redundant literally the week after I found out I was pregnant, and yes still qualified and received it.

It goes on tax contributions so you should be fine

@Colette I think that’s only if you’re self employed.

@N 💞 I’m unsure tbh but I wasn’t self employed and that’s what I was told. I think as long as you were working for the 26 weeks as mentioned above then you’re entitled

@Colette I wasn’t earning enough to pay any tax at all when I qualified for it whilst I was employed so it can’t be based on tax contributions otherwise I wouldn’t have got it.

@N 💞 ok

Thanks for the replies ladies 🫶🏻 I don't have the payslips atm so hoping that's not gonna be an issue!

@Amber I didn’t have to provide any payslips. I think they can just look up your working status’ and hours etc

@Colette I don’t think you’re talking about maternity allowance as you do need wage slips.. @Amber When you apply for it to the government you have to send off 13 weeks worth of payslips. When are you due? It’s best to get the ball rolling asap as it can be quite a lengthy process

@N 💞 I'm due on November 30th but being induced atleast a week before, I had absolutely no idea I might even be eligible otherwise I would have done it sooner 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've emailed my previous employer to see if they will send me the payslips as I'm locked out of the online portal now, I'm guessing they should still have a record 🤞🏻

@Colette you would think given they ask for your payroll number and NI number that they would be able to verify your earnings on their end but then they do like to make these things difficult don't they!

@Amber yes hopefully they can send you the slips! It does get backdated as well so you shouldn’t miss out on any pay even if it does come in a bit late

@N 💞 I am currently receiving maternity allowance and didn’t provide any payslips 😂 so maybe my situation was different

@N 💞 oh fingers crossed I won't have any problems then! 🤞🏻

@Colette how bizarre. It states on the gov website that you have to send off the original proof of earnings with your application 🤔

You’ll qualify for maternity allowance, but I would get the payslips. My application asked for proof of earnings so I just got everything I needed before and sent it off with everything .. I had no issues getting paid it etc c

@Jemima Yeah I'm gonna be chasing up my previous employer for sure, it says on the form and online you need them so while I'm sure they can make exceptions its probably awkward as arse so 🤷
