Has anyones GD affected their driving license?

It’s second time round pregnancy and GD for me so it was diagnosed a lot earlier. I’m on insulin at night only but had to disclose to the DVLA because I’d be on it for more than 3 months. I now have about 5 weeks of my pregnancy left and the DVLA has written back to say they’ll be taking my license and issuing me with a medical driving license. I’m a bit confused as I wasn’t expecting this to happen and nothing is clear about it on the internet. Does anyone have any insight if this is correct or not?

They do this because you’re at a higher risk of a hypo and therefore at a higher risk of passing out behind the wheel, you should get your normal license back when you come off insulin.

I’ve been on insulin since 25 weeks (morning, teatime and night) and knew nothing about this! I only have about 5 1/2 weeks left so won’t bother contacting them now as by the time they sort it I’ll probably have had baby! 😂 but I had no idea I was supposed to do this!!

Yeah the annoying thing is I’m about to come off it. Wish I hadn’t bothered contacting! But it is illegal so be careful driving Sarah. I didn’t realise either which is why I told DVLA late.

How did you even find out about needing to do it?!
