Too early -

It’s not recommended to give anything other than milk until 6 months.

Too early

@Abbie what about the pouches in the supermarket that say 4 months +? Why are they a thing if it's bad to give them?

Why would you even want to? Just let them be a baby!!! Wait until 6+ months

Technically you can depending on if they have full head control etc but we know now that babies digestive systems aren’t really ready for food until 6 months. It is also suggested to start with green vegetables

@Scarlett she's following everything I put in my mouth and I didn't know if that was a sign that she wants to try

https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/baby/weaning/ready-or-not-weaning-quiz/ Also following with their eyes isn’t really a sign of readiness. My little girl was doing that at 3 months old and she was nowhere near ready for solids x

Wait till they are 6+ months. It’s best. She’s just curious. she has no idea what food is.

I personally wouldn’t but if my son was giving cues like your child and I was wondering I’d go to their doctor first before asking anyone else.

My first was weaned at 17 weeks My second was weaned at 20 weeks

@Dani hi, to be honest, it’s just a marketing ploy, NHS guidelines say 6 months for a reason, babies digestive systems aren’t ready for food. There are exceptional circumstances, but this will be because a doctor told you to

Your baby needs to be at least 17 weeks to start weaning 🙏 We got advised to wean early, at 4 months, due to bad reflux. The pouches you see for 4+ months are helpful if you start early weaning if you have been advised to do so. You know what’s best for your baby! 🤗

@Abbie I couldn’t agree with you more a mum off here that I talked too went off on me because I questioned her as to why she tried her almost 4 month old or 4 month old with the pouches, I told her why it’s best & recommended to wait until babies are at least 6 months due to many reasons such as better for their digestive system, she told me she was giving it to her LO to try, anyway it turn’t out into another whole DRAMA about something else a few weeks later 🙄 I wasn’t judging her in the slightest just curious as to why she was doing the things she was and I was ONLY TRYING TO GIVE ADVICE ( but it clearly wasn’t wanted ) so @Dani I’d say giving your baby anything other than breastmilk / formula at 15 weeks is still early and I wouldn’t recommend it by any means, best advice discuss with your health visitor on next visit if you’re eager to start weaning earlier than recommended. 🙂

I’d say no, her digestive system won’t be ready

@𝑲𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒚 yep! And honestly I don’t know why people want to wean so early, trying allergies and things is an absolute nightmare! I miss the days of just milk

@Abbie I weaned early due to a poor weight gain and weight losses due to a late diagnosis of CMPA at 5 months old but that was only after the go ahead from the paediatricians at the hospital and we are under the care of a dietitian otherwise I would’ve liked to wait till 6 months old. Weaning her early has caused her soo many allergies (6 allergies in total) and issues such as the fact she’s on a daily dose of stool softener otherwise she is constipated awful x

Wayyyyyyyyy too early hun

@Dani I run weaning classes and work in health visiting. You have to remember that Ella’s kitchen,Heinz etc are COMPANIES who are looking to make a PROFIT. The guidance changed to 6 months as we found out more about a baby’s digestive system through science. But unfortunately the legislation surrounding baby food and what they can advertise hasn’t caught up yet. Until the law changes telling them they can’t sell 4+ month pouches, they will continue to do so because they will otherwise lose 2 months of PROFIT! They want your money and are not concerned with what is best for your baby unfortunately

@Dani they say from 4 months so companies can make more money by parents of 4-6 month olds buying them .

I wouldn't as their digestive systems aren't ready yet. Wait until 6 months.

I'd wait until 6 months

@Dani it's just her vision has gotten that much better now, so she can see better what you are doing and track and follow your movements as she sees new things.

@Dani watching you eat is a false sign of readiness hun. Baby will watch you doing the hoovering but isn’t ready to be handed the Dyson 🤣 I always tell my weaning groups that one. They watch everything you do. And don’t forget, their noses are still picking up the smells despite tummies not being ready so they are bound to be interested in the food.

Have a research on readiness a lot can seem like a baby is ready for weaning when in actual fact they really aren’t. As others have said it’s best to wait until 6 months, it can do all sorts to their digestive system. We were told by a. Peadatricion/dietician to wean at 5 months of my little boy was still Showing symptoms of acid reflux (main issues were bottle refusal), however we got on top of it (thankfully) so we could wait until 6 months. Honestly it’s best to wait there’s really no need to wean them so early when they don’t need it

Way too early. Their tummy won’t be mature enough yet for food. Stick to just milk until 6 months. Unless a dr has recommended to do so

I don’t think purées at that age are good. Too thick. Most doctors don’t recommend until atleast 6 months. But follow the signs of readiness. Starting with interest in food. If they show no interest then I wouldn’t do it, could cause aversion. Also they need to be able to hold their head up properly or it could be a choking hazard.

There have been studies that show if you wean too early that your child is more likely to develop allergies later in life.

The earliest you *can* start is 17 weeks, but *most* babies aren't developmentally ready until closer to 6 months. Interest in food is only one piece of the "readiness puzzle." Check out SolidStarts (on Instagram or website) for great info on what readiness entails and looks like

If your baby has a medical issue like colic or reflux trying puree from 4 months can be brilliant, but I personally wouldn’t do it without the go ahead from a specialist doctor. My eldest did purées from 4 months and it was an incredible change. She was throwing up 50+ times a day until she started purées and then everything got so much better. My youngest never had those issues so we waited until 6 months x

Only if there's a medical reason and you've consulted your health visitor or doctor.

Why rush? If your baby is showing signs? Or a hungry baby? But baby needs to be able to sit up strong so thats the best time to start! Think babys are still spitting up bits of milk. My baby is 15 weeks and although hes watches us eat and seems interested its too early for him personally.

My babies are allergic to cows milk so I try to avoid weaning as much I can although my baby just turned 6 months I’m not in rush I’m terrified if she gets an allergic reaction and if its effects her tummy she might won’t sleep at night 😅so I’m still waiting even my baby got a terrible reflux so weaning could solve this issue but still I’m nervous and scared if I’m being honest. Every baby and every mom it’s different if your baby it’s showing sign of interest it’s upto you what you decide as mother knows best ❤️just make sure you are well informed beforehand and knows the risks and benefits x

Only you really know if they're ready. Can they sit independently? Hold their head up well? Have good hand eye/hand to mouth coordination? Do they show an interest in food, they'll stare intently at you eating, like puppies do. Have they lost the tongue reflex (automatically pushes food back out of their mouth)? Started to chew and I don't mean their hands! Like physically make a chewing motion when biting something. If no to any of them then no they're not ready and that's fine. There's no rush to give them actual food. It's recommended 6m. My little girl was so ready at 4m I started her at 4.5, however my little man was nowhere near ready at 4m, he was barely ready at 6m. I'd go off them and their cues.
