Weaning.

first time mumma here, i know this may sound stupid to ask but we are about to start our weaning journey and i just have no clue where to start or what is best for my little boy. we have bought a few pouches and also some porridge. I have read a few things where you’re supposed to just start with one meal a day? but how long is this for? or starting with allergens and it’s a but confusing. i was going to get a book then someone told me it was pointless but i’ve tried watching videos or reading things but i just wanted to know other people’s journeys, how did they start, what did they start on, well just everything please. thank you x

If introducing an allergen - only introduce 1 a day at an earlier time so if there’s a reaction, you know what sparked it eg, wheat, egg, dairy, nut.

I started with a different veggie for the first 10 days, then went to two different veggies and/or fruit up until day 30 before I started introducing any allergens. I would go at least 2-3 days between an allergen as sometimes it can take a bit longer to show a reaction and yes, always do the feed for an allergen in the morning. After the first 30 days, you could try simple meals, once a day like pasta with the veggies, bread/wraps, meats and fish, eggs etc. Hope this is helpful

We've done a few allergens now it's scary at first but it's better to do them earlier personally I've always dinner it days my partner is off work as I'm anxious but do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Nuts for example I offered for the first time almond butter in a porridge he'd had before so I knew that was safe, yesterday he had it on fingers of rust and loved it. But start with simple vegetables for a week or 2 then start adding other flavors and textures and allergens

My health visitor recommended starting with vegetables first to get them used to the flavour before introducing pouches are they’re filled with sweeteners and sugars, this way your baby is less likely to be fussy, just start off with small amounts like taste testing and follow your baby as they’ll let you know when they’re full

Also babies cannot have honey until they turn one 🤍

Baby academy have a free online class on weaning, which may be useful!

We did her baby rice mixed with her left over bottle and slowly added pouches to try different foods then we moved on to try finger foods. Then we're slowly introducing allergies as we go along now. It goes on how much they eat and add that second meal when you think they're ready for it. I took a free classs with the baby academy (they're on Instagram) and I can't recommend it enough
