Stretching feeds

My little one is a week old today and he was feeding every 3 hours (sometimes 2 depending if he cried for it) and now we are just purely demand feeding, since then he now feeds every 1-1.5 hours and is only taking 30-50ml rather then a whole bottle like he did on the 3 hour feeds. Is there a way to try stretch feeds out? We are finding he’s not ‘milk drunk’ anymore so not sleeping for as long before needing more milk. He is formula fed btw. Is this normal? We have introduced colic drops tonight to see if this helps if he’s got gas. I’m not sleeping at all which I wasn’t sure if this was normal at this age?

This is fairly normal. There's a bit of a growth spurt around a week old, and it tends to cause cluster feeding. You'll probably find that any time the baby goes through a growth, spurt feeding will change in some way.

Are you sure he's definitely hungry when you're feeding every 1-1.5 hours if he's not taking the full bottle? Might be worth trying to distract him or play or he might just want comfort (I use dummies but I know not everyone likes them)

He makes the usual mouth movements when he’s hungry, and keeps spitting out his dummy cos he wants the bottle rather. He takes the dummy then realises it’s not the bottle and spits it out and carries on crying, then takes the bottle and drinks straight away

my baby is 4 weeks old on sunday and has been drinking every 1.5 hours pretty much since birth, he drinks 2/3 oz each time 😅 hes only just starting to go a bit longer at night but even then often it’s still 1.5 hours, he’s just a hungry babe 😅xx

This is normal for a 1 week old, I would continue feeding on demand
