Moms who switched from breastmilk to formula, did you do it gradually or cold turkey? Any tips please? It’s time 😅

Also…I’d like to possibly continue to breastfeed if he wakes over night..anyway I could keep enough supply for that or might as well just call it quits? I do not want to pump.

Following. I need to transition from breastmilk to whole milk and have no clue how to do it 😫 this kid is attached.

@AndreaWhen I transitioned from breastmilk to whole milk I started at around 11.5 months and was pumping so a little different but I was offering a bottle of breastmilk with 1 oz of whole milk and I’d increase it by 1 oz of whole milk every 2 days until it was all whole milk. Does your little one take bottles at all. Probably gotta start there.

I did it gradually but baby basically decided he liked the bottle better because I was basically completely dried up.

@MJ_xo he doesn’t and I hate pumping. I think thats why we are where we are 🫣.. Ill try giving a bottle this weekend and see if it works 🤞🏻

Took me about 2.5 weeks of weaning... I started with doing night feeds and first morning for a bit... then slowly cut out the night so I could get some sleep lol and husband did bottle.. then I did just first in the morning for a week before going to bottle exclusively ... While doing all this I expressed or pumped for relief and then towards the last few days I wore a sports bra and some cold cabbage leaves Lol weird to say but I feel this really helped me 😅🤷🏻‍♀️

The people that I know who switched to formula did it gradually. I feel like it’s kind of similar to weaning, you drop one feed at a time? Maybe swap one feed to formula at a time? And nurse over night if that’s what u want to do, that’ll maintain that supply

For as long as you breastfeed, even if it’s once a day, you will keep producing breastmilk.

@Andrea I don’t blame you. Pumping is awful lol. Good luck!!

@Angela not weird at all. Cabbage leaves have dried me up quickly too. I’ll be using them again when I’m ready

Didn’t yet myself, but other moms and pro say that 1st give breast milk in a bottle. Once he get used to it, then start to introduce formula in 1 bottle and gradually increase the bottle of formula vs bottle of breastmilk until full transition

Just to update the ladies who are transitioning in the future..I just left my pediatricians office and he advised there’s not really a wrong way to transition. He said slowly would probably ease constipation but he said it’s not necessary and some women do it cold turkey depending on their supply. He said I can do half breastmilk bottles for 2-3 days, then decrease the breastmilk in the bottle another oz for another couple days and so on. I tried introducing 1 full formula bottle in the am and he was not having it 😂 so I think mixing is probably a better way to go.
