Weird that I’ve come across this my son had one today honestly it’s hard to see your child go through a blood test but it’s over in less than 5mins you basically have to hold the child how you would when having there immunisations they just take blood from the babies hand and it’s done they’ll send it over to the gp or paediatrician and they’ll let you know within 6months what the results are

As an autistic person myself- I am curious on why you are doing the genetic testing? From what I have seen you can’t be diagnosed with it and personally as an autistic person the idea of genetic testing scares the living hell out of me- too many hate groups want to practice eugenics on us …

I didn’t know autism could be diagnosed through genetic testing? 😳

@Lyss this is offered to everyone in the UK. There are certain genes linked to autism, it’s good to have all the information. https://www.autismspeaks.org/expert-opinion/genetic-testing-autism

Incognito just fyi autism speaks is a hate group that wants to use eugenics to eradicate us. So I would not use their information. And honestly that’s what i was afraid of. Autism speaks needs to be eradicated.

Thank you All for your quick response @Lyss my daughter has just been diagnosed so I am willing and have some much to learn. I appreciate your comment and will look into it.

@Tia thank you for sharing your experience. I am already having a hard time just the thought of it.

@Lyss the genetic testing isn’t through autism speaks, it’s through the NHS.

@Melody i understand that but the link the op shared is from autism speaks so i would not trust the information on that link because again autism speaks is a hate group and people should know this so that we stop using their information.

Incognito if you have any questions answered from an autistic person themselves feel free to ask me! 💝

Your welcome Honestly it’s not as bad as you think yes it’s not nice for the child or to see but it is worth it

@Lyss I understand the concerns there. there are many genetic conditions that can cause autism-like symptoms. It can help to know with future planning and treating present/future health issues. My son sees a geneticist and it’s my impression the testing is more to investigate developmental delays as opposed to -autism-. Since most, if not all, of the genetic conditions currently known to cause ASD also cause co-morbid intellectual disability. Or if a child has a steep regression there are some really nasty genetic conditions that can mask as an ASD early on.

@Shea i totally get this aspect and i wish doctors looked also more into comobilities that come with autism like ehlers-danlos syndrome, mast cell activation, pots and other autoimmune issues and things like endometriosis in afab autistics when it comes to this aspect as well. But I just like to play it safe when I can an educate about the abuse of the hate group autism speaks and I know they are pushing for genetic testing to do eugenics so I was just asking

My sons genetic test for autism was through a saliva sample

@Kacy did they find anything? My daughter’s will be through blood testing

No. Out of the 250 genes they tested he didn't have a single variant to link it to genetics.
